ive read that you can over clock the 6800GT to the ULTRA's clock speeds. i have great air cooling and plenty of power. how would i go about doing this? is there a special program i need, or can i do it in my vid card options tab? if so, what are the settings i need to set, to achieve the ULTRA's speed? thanks

I clocked my bfg 6800gt to Ultra speeds within like 3 hours of installing it. it has not been at stock speeds since August of last year. its now at 425/1100 and runs fine. just go up slowly and test all the new speeds before going up more. and watch the temps as well. some cards will OC higher than others also. but Ultra speeds are no bigee for most GT's with stock cooling.

How can you get an accurate reading of the peak load temp without alt-tabbing out of the program to check the display driver?

I did the "detect optimal settings" for my PNY 6800GT and it gave me 395/1.08ghz

I haven't tried testing it more than that.

theres a program named rthribl or something like that. its a windowed 3d program and it loads the vid card and you can watch the temps as they go up. also on the detect one run it about 6 times or so and average those results out and go with that. you can also just put the sliders were you want and have it test them. mine only detects like 408/1100 but it passes the test fine at 425/1100 and there are no issues in any games I play and the temps are fine. I do have a NV Silencer 5 though.

I can actually get the GPU higher its the memory that start givin out. it fails the test all the time at 1200 so I just leave it at 1100.

Google rthdribl (Close at the spelling...took me months to get it right and remember it w/o thinking ;)) and use that. Run that with the window stretched as far as you can, and watch your core temp...let it run for like 20 mins i say...usually tops out temps after 20 mins.

just got my card to do 400/1100 which are ultra speeds unless I've misread some things.

Runs that rthdribl thing for 20minutes stretched out a bit.

Max temp = 80c is that any good?

Some Ultra's are comming clocked at 425/1100.

80c is a lil toasty but the threshold on most of the cards is like 100 or 120. mine maxes at like 70ish

which others besides the BFG ultra OC is there an ultra that comes clocked at 425? asus?

eVGA Ultra's are supposedly clocked at 425MHz as well.
