Ok, today I plan to go to Home Depot and get materials to start making the case. I've never done this before but luckily my dad is pretty handy with making stuff. If anyone has any links or good advice before I start, I'd love to hear it.
 
Go with lexan if you can afford it. It does scratch easier than acrylic, but there is an abrasion-resistant variety available.
See www.mcmaster.com for the abrasion stuff.
 
How are you going to attach the pieces together? I talked to a guy from U.S. Plastics and he said to use IPS 16 (Item #44629) for acrylic. You could also use these if you don't want to mess with glueing.
