Please someone look over my components

Hi I want to build this gaming PC but am somewhat of a newb in doing this. I already have a copy of Windows 7 64 Bit and a monitor (plus mouse/keyboard/LAN card). I am thinking of perhaps overclocking the CPU.

I just want to know if all the components are good, if they all fit together, if I am missing anything crucial. Also the PC is a bit pricey where can I save some money with reasonably minor performance impact by any chance?

There's a couple things I see that could use some clarification.

The DVD drive you chose is only a reader, it can't write DVDs. Is this intended?
The mobo you chose supports triple channel. With such a high end build, I'd assume you would at least get 6gb of memory to take advantage of the triple channel, but you only got 4gb.
The thermal grease and heatsink you chose are questionable at best. I'm not a cooling guy, so I'll let someone else chime in on this one.

I only really need a DVD drive to install OS and games.

I thought 6 GB offered no tangible benefit over 4 GB right now unless this is not the case?

The cooling solutions...I'm not sure if I really need them? How far could I overclock the Ghz of the i-7 with stock cooling solutions and how far with special grease and a new heatsink/fan?

Any particular reason why you went with the GTX 470 over the HD 5850?

Drop both the CPU and mobo down to this instead:
$200 - Intel Core i5 750 CPU
$140 - Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 Intel P55 ATX Motherboard
---
Total: $340 plus tax and shipping.

Should drop your total by $200 but gives you pretty close performance in video games.

Ditch the Masscool Thermal Grease. AS5, MX1, and MX2 are the better known and more than likely better quality thermal pastes. Don't even think about overclocking with the stock HSF. The Coolermaster HSF you chose is fine.

Ditch that DVD-ROM drive as once you factor in the $7 shipping for that $16 DVD-ROM drive, that's a total of $23 already. For $2 more, you can get an actual DVD burner:
$25 - LG GH22NS50 DVD Burner

So yeah, getting that DVD-ROM drive is a stupid waste of money. In fact most DVD-ROM drives are poor buy considering that DVD-Burners are often just $2 t $5 more. As such, there is no good reason to get a DVD-ROM drive once you factor in the pricing.

Ditch the Earthwatts and get the better quality and higher powered Antec Neo Eco 620C instead:
$70 - Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W PSU

The Antec EA650 only has 45A on the +12V rail whereas the 620C has 48A on the +12V rail. So the Neo Eco costs $6 less, is of better quality and has more power. That's a no-brainer.

I changed the grease and power supply and cd drive.

You don't think 4 cores makes the PC more future proof?

Also, as for GFX 470 vs. HD 5850 I really didn't think much of it.

Actually, the i5-750 has four physical cores. The only thing missing is HyperThreading, which adds four virtual cores to the four physical cores for a total of eight logical cores.

As for your original choice of an i7-930 and an X58 motherboard, you will not be able to attain the full performance potential of that platform with only two sticks of RAM. You see, the i7-930/X58 platform runs memory in triple-channel (which requires three sticks of RAM) - but with only two sticks of RAM, the memory controller would be forced to run in only dual-channel.

So, to compare the i7 to the two different series of i5 desktop processors:
  • i7: 4 cores, 8 threads (except for the i7-980X, which has 6 cores and 12 threads)
  • i5-7xx: 4 cores, 4 threads
  • i5-6xx: 2 cores, 4 threads

Naturally, the relative performance goes like this:
i7 > i5-7xx >> i5-6xx (but even the dual-core i-series processors are no slouch in overall performance potential)
