Hi,
I'm overclocking a x2 3800 on an msi k8n neo4 platinum sli. I've read the guides and stickies - but honestly most guides are into way too much detail for me. I work a lot and don't have a lot of time to play with this stuff. I just want a straightforward overclock to reach the level of an x2 4800.
So this is what I did.
I set the fsb/htt thing to 240, cpu multiplier to 10x, manual ram settings 166mhz, I changed the HTT multiplier to 3x (and truly don't know why - I think I read to do that somewhere). And I set the cpu voltage to 1.33.
So it boot's up fine and has been running for about an hour - cpu temp is 39 C after being under full load for about 30 min. now. ( I installed an si-120 last night).
2 problems - even though I set the cpu voltage to 1.33 cpu-z and core center both report it as anywhere from 1.28 to 1.3 - why is this?
Second thing - ram timings. If I could find documentation on what all the ram settings in the msi bios mean I probably wouldn't have a week to read it all. Seriously there are over 45 settings. But every guide just says 2,2,2,5 or something. When everything starts out at auto you can't tell what it's at so..... cpu-z says this: under the 166 column: 2.5,3,3,7 - this is whatever the msi default is. cpu-z also correctly shows that with the 240 fsb/ht my ram is running at 200mhz dual channel. ( I have 2 sticks of 1gb geil double sided)
The question is how can I improve the ram timings? If you know of a guide to the msi ram settings that is sensible all joking aside I will read it.
Thanks!
