Hello all i been a long time lurker here in the Hardforums. i am planing on buying a new pc around december 10, after 4 month of reserching what hardware to get and also wating around for new stuff to come out and after countless hours of reading post after post i feel i am ready to build the system. Here is the choice of parts i am going with:

MEMORY

Is this to much ram for casual OC'ing?? i am not planing on OCing the CPU a lot maybe 200 mgzh over stock speeds just to squeez a bit of preformance out. im still trying to learn about ocing so all the ocing im going to do will be minimal until i learn. is this ram to expensive? is so what would be good ram for the kind of ocing i will be doing?

Seems like even with a few minor problems is still one board people recomend. question here is since i dont own any prior 130mm cora cpu's and im getting a 90mm core will i have problem flashing to bios? i read in a post that msi was already offering the mobos with the updated bios and newegg had been shipping them.

I chosse this CPU cause is both under 200 dollars and it is a 2 gig chip going with anything lower would be downgrading for me since i already have a 2 gig p4 but anyways i also chose this cause it will give me some headroom to upgrade in the feuture and also headroom to OC.

Got this cause of 3 reasons actually 4. Good reviews enought space i llike to looks of it and 500 w psu. To my understanding the main part i have to worry about the psu is it 12 vrail this psu has 34A, is this good enought??? like i said im not going to do any type of hardcore OCing.

chose this card cause it is already OC and is not far from reaching ultra speeds once i get this system running stable and make sure everything is running ok i will try to oc it to ultra speeds. question here is in case of not finding any bfg on stock is evga a good alternative? also will the stock cooling on bfg or evga be enough to keep the card running at accpetable temps wile at ultra speeds?

will this be good enought for the type of Ocing i will be doing ? i read the thermaright site and it said that it will fit on the mobo im getting. also what fan should i get to put in this HS?

the rest of the computer parts i will be getting from my old computer.

40 gig HD
HP cdrw
and a dvd drive that came with my dell.

eventually i will be upgradig these parts but for now my funds only cover the above mentioned parts.

Anything i forgot so far? any comments or advice is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance and GL to all.

I stick with Corsair memory myself. Some people have had problems with OCZ memory, but if the price difference is drastic....go with what you can afford. I haven't heard of many problems with OCZ mem lately, but I haven't been paying much attention lately either. Guess I just had great success with Corsair and they got a loyal customer out of it, much like Western Digital for HDs :cool:

edit: Oh, and you'll find a lot more of modern games truly take advantage of the 1 gig, I would say 1 gig would be minimum for a good game rig nowadays. ;)

You can't compare Intel and AM by GHz. An upgrade from a 2.0GHz Pentuim 4 to a 3200+ @ 2.0GHz will be a huge improvement.

Yeah it hit me after i posted that it was a bad comparison.

the only thing that i might change is the memory, it is the field were i lack Knowledge. i understand how it works and all but im not just fully understanding the concept i read the ram guide here and in other boards but still shaky on what memory i should get. if i am going to OC will i need the special memory?? how bad will it be if i use say the corsair value ram ?? thanks very much for your input and thanks a lot for the link, my first option on getting the BFG 6800 gt oc is thru the 3 local best buy's if they dont have them i will give that site a try, they even have a better price compared to newegg

Thanks very much for the heads up i will reserch a new psu and case tonight and post my picks again. it sure would suck to get a brand new rig and for it to burn cause of a poor decission on the psu. again thanks very much
 
What you guys think of the following psu: and case combo i got this case cause it will score brownie points with the wife since is not as flasy looking as the x navigator.

This set up is going to cost me around 75 more dollars so im gonna have to stick to a more cheap type of ram. Im still going to reserch around see if i can find a cheaper PSU. would a 420 watts psu be enought to run the hardware i chosse?

well i just saw some other psu that are worth reserching under the Mid-High End = Under$100 section of the post. gonna take my time and read some reviews
 
well after talking to my wife and doing some reading it looks like i will be getting the following

ENERMAX Noisetaker Series 420W Power Supply, ATX 12V V1.3 compatible: Support latest P4 and Athlon 64 platforms, Model "EG425P-VE-SFMA"

and the Thermaltake tsunami case, will eather get the one with the acrilyc windows or just the one with out the acrilyc window. there is only one question i have. been that the enermax PSU have a top fan and the case does not have a top exaust fan will this be a problem ?? I was thinking that once the psu is in i will have overhead room for the top psufan to have space to blow the air out into the case.

cool sounds good i was going to go with the antec case you recommended but my wife said she rather spend a bit more money and have a smaller nicer looking case compareed to the antec case. Plus the tsunami case would look good since the computer is going to be in the living room wich we just remodle 2 days ago. truns out good im happy and so is she. And all of us married folks know that if she aint happy you will not be happy eather ;)
