I have three PCs that I use for processing images and video. I'm looking for a cost effective backup solution to safeguard against single disk failures. To save space and cost, I only want to back up the original image copies, and not mirror the entire drive on each of the PCs. I have about 400GB of data to back up just considering the original image files. The options I was looking at were to either
- Enable each of the PCs for RAID. Segregate the data I want backed up on each of the PCs and mirror that data onto disks.
- Purchase a NAS and use commercially available archival software to archive my original images over to the NAS from each of the PCs.
The second option sounds more straightforward to me but wanted to hear your opinions or find out if there are additional options I should consider. If the NAS solution makes sense, any suggestions on a reasonably priced unit would be appreciated.
