not sure where to ask this, but can someone please recommend me a cheap SSD for a dell mini 9?

Performance would be good, but not as important as price. Truthfully, im not sure what is compatible with what now a days. Or what is even good..

Thanks in advance.

How much storage do you think you need? Just as an idea, my 80GB SSD holds my OS and two large games... and that's about it.

The Crucial C300 64GB drive seems to be widely popular on this site for about $130.

I personally went with the Intel X25-M 80GB for about $175.

Either way, once you go SSD you won't turn back. It is HIGHLY worth it.

/sigh :(

That is what I was worried about.... i will browse that forum. Thanks.

(still wouldn't mind a recommendation, lol).

I'm still using the stock 8gb drive on mine. It seems like a pricey upgrade.

That looks like a good option. Too bad it costs almost as much as the mini 9 cost initally

Yea :(, but its almost even with the X25m 80gb (a little more expensive) but should be a nice upgrade, not sure the mini would take advantage of a good ssd though, but there is also the 40gb version in case you find it too expensive and can live with smaller ssd, Intel 310 Series (Soda Creek) SSDMAEMC040G2C1 mSATA 40GB mSATA (mini PCIe form factor) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - OEM $99.

TBH, if 13/14 manufacturers would release their laptops with mini PCIe msata port, i would go down from my 17'', and just grab the 80gb and use the included hdd as storage, but i doubt thats going to happen soon.

If it uses a Mini PCIe hdd, then look into new Intel 310, just cross check it, there are smaller 1.8 ssd, but if its mini PCIe i would go with something like Intel 310 Series (Soda Creek) SSDMAEMC080G2C1 mSATA 80GB mSATA (mini PCIe form factor) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - OEM $189.99

That wont work in a Mini9.. The mini 9 uses a parallel SSD where the 310 is a mSATA ssd. There are very few that will work & honestly most people aren't going to get enough usage out of a mini 9 to justify it. Basically I couldn't see paying for it unless you were using it with a fruity OS that doesn't come on it.

Guys, it's a netbook with a single core atom. The chipset and weak CPU are REALLY going to hold the SSD back a lot. Even my netbook can't even begin to tap into my SSDs true potential and I have a dual-core atom with a much better chipset.

Seriously OP, a 500GB or 1TB 2.5" HDD would be a much better investment for that netbook as you won't get much better, if any performance gain, from a SSD, mainly due to how weak the processor and chipset.

You can't put a 2.5 inch drive in a mini 9

The Mini 9 uses a mini PCIe harddrive. A standard 2.5" drive will not fit.

Ah, I did not catch that, good call bastage.

In that case OP, do what you can with a 64-80GB, it should be good with that system then.

If you are worried about space, I'm running a 60GB SSD with a ton of Adobe video editing apps, office 2010, steam, and a load of other small to large apps, including a linux install and still have around 15-20GB to play with (around 30GB without linux).
