please recomend me some video editing software.

i let my friend borrow some dvd's to watch them, now he wants to coppy one of them and make it in to an avi file to play on his pc.
personally i never mess around with video editing because i dont have a dvd player on my pc, but he just got this lap top that has a dvd r/w.

what program will allow him to take the ripped vcd or svcd and turn it in to an avi file?

you dont "own" those DVDs, you purchased the media, and a license to view them in the comfort of your own home or elsewhere as long as its not for profit or public showing
and definately not to redistribute
