Hey there guys, im in need of a bit of help.. im just getting back into the PC game, and im a little lost (ok, very lost these days)

im basically looking for a card for aboug AU$300, so about US$200, budget in other words, can anyone point me in the right direction. Will be mainly for games I guess, im really after a kinda fast budget, good value for money, card and something thats going to be rock solid (kinda like the 6600gt was back in the day)

hopefully if i get that FX55 from that comp back a month or two ago that i didnt know about because i didnt have internet at the time, ill be rockin! :D

thanks in advance, Calis!

In that range i would say get a 7900GS and a good fan and OC it.

OCing is a no go, i used to do it alot and that was all fine, but these days i can't afford to risk something going wrong, i really cant, i dont care how safe it is, id rather live in the safe knowledge that im not endagering my card in any way at all, and that if it breaks i can get it fixed/replaced under warranty

edit: sorry didnt mean to shut you down like that, i appreciate any help but i'm just not prepared to risk breaking anything with an OC, probably sounds silly to most but im exceptionally stingy when it comes to computers these days - and poor rofl

My point exactly thier is an Evga one on new egg and i was planning to buy it, till the 219$ 8800GTS deal.

woah are you serious? thats insane, boy ill look into that then, because i do enjoy OCing, its just that before ive always been worried about breaking it and not being able to get it replaced

edit, i just checked, eargh, there are only 3 places in Australia which sell EVGA 7900GT's and all are around AU$500, what a joke, thats probably why i never considered EVGA.. don't seem to be very available in Australia

There is an evga seller in australia that is considered approved. Its shadow something.

The 7900GS has a better price/performance ratio at this point, you misread Arnge's post:)

Although being in Australia I don't know if even that's doable.

yeah, evga has the same policy with there mainboards which is what really impressed me.

Ummmmmm... what you might look into doing is hitting up ebay.com.au or whatever ebay auzzy extension is and look for a non-registered evga 8800GTS 320mb card.

if you want a card on the up n up, you want an 8600GTS.

edit: I work for a small computer store (http://www.alinx.ca)we happen to have a decent evga supplier, Ill look into shipping to australlia, I'll give you a lil more info tomorrow.

Even if he bought from ebay he would need an invoice from an approved retailer, which ebay is not.

riiiight (not sarcastic)

yeah what I meant was he could get it but not have it warentied.

perfect time for you to ask. I could give you a better answer today after the official launch info for the 8600 series comes out.

hossdaddy,

How did you find that card on newegg? Any search I do for 8600 shows nothing Video card wise :)

EDIT: Search for 8600GTS and ya get what you're lookin' fer ;)

EVGA does NOT OFFER a lifetime warranty in Australia.

Just for that reason i have decided to boycot them. I talked to a rep and even if we are willing to pay all the shipping costs they will still not offer the lifetime warranty for some stupid reason.
