So, I built a machine for my dad back in 2000 with a p3 1ghz and 256gb of ram etc.

It finally flaked out on him.

Any recommendations on a pre-built?

All he needs is to check email, watch youtube, and peruse word documents.

So, basically, the most basic of systems. (he hates computers but needs one for his business etc)

Dell pre-built is actually a good suggestion

if you add a monitor, and maybe if needed a gpu the build is ready to go, might be a good idea to find a way to get windows 7 on it once you know it works well though :p

Personally, I would just build dad a rig, may take a touch longer, however, can save $ and get better choices as far as really whittling down the parts while still getting the high quality if he want to keep it/use it for a long time :)
 
If you really dont need much for computing power, prebuilt is going to be your best best. You're looking at prices as low as 350$ for an i3 dekstop with 4GB of ram which will easily do what he needs.

This was 359$ I think without any promo codes or anything. Just make sure the monitor he's using has the proper imputs, not sure if you're using VGA to connect since it is a P3
 
Has he thought about getting a laptop?
They are cheap and powerful enough to do what he would need no problem.
He could work while sitting in the lazy boy chair, going poop, a break outside on the porch, etc. :cool:

and they are very low cost for decent performance.

I was about to jump back on this thread and say the same thing, laptop/notebook/tablet or een if you go into staples/futureshop/bestbuy/walmart if you are looking for a system ready to go, thats your best bet, otherwise I would just make it myself save the $ and et the most for the $ spent.
 
Wow, that must have been awful using that old Pentium after 2007.

Do you live near a Microcenter? They have very good laptop deals. Any Ivy Bridge dual-core is solid.
 
We ordered a $300 laptop from walmart(easy returns if needed) and my son has been using it to play CS:GO?(whatever that new CS thing is) and LOL, and has been pretty good.
