I just recently bought a 76 gb raptor. I went though the setup to install it. This is what I did:

I entered the computer through my old hdd and formatted the raptor (in windows using manager). I then exited and conducted these changes to the BIOS:

Advacned BIOS features: --Hard disk boot priority---1. Bootable Add-in Device 2. CH3. (74) 3. My other HDD (WD 80 SE)

I then went into Intergrated Perpherals---onboard ide device tried the settings: "Enchanced, and Auto"

As for onchip IDE device

IDE BUS Master is disabled
everything else is Auto (the PIO mode and ultra DMA etc)

Windows seemed to install fine, it just wont boot and get to the Windows Logon screen. It stays black.

I have a Abit IC-7 and running the SATA drive primary OS, and then other HDD primary on the ide chan 1. Thats all.

I have absolutely no idea what to do. Im searching the web and here trying to find answers. Any ideas??

Thanks in advance.

Did you do the F6 procedure to install the SATA drivers during Windows setup?

i downloaded sata drivers from abit... but no a-drive

im going to try and load them from a cd

any other ideas aroundt this?

Alright, now theres a list of drivers to chose from, and I have no idea.

I tried silicon image and it didnt work.

it may have been the wrong one.

theres:

intel sata raid, ahci

VIA serial ATA raid controller for XP....

Here are some better more descriptive options:

intel 82801FR SATA Raid

intel 82801FR SATA AHCI

intel 82801ER SATA Raid

Silicon Image SIL 3112 and 3114 RAID

VIA Serial ATA RADI controller

I would appreciate any help.

I have an IC7-Max3 (basically the same board).
You need to know which SATA you have your raptor plugged into (the Intel ONCHIP or the 3114 ONBOARD).
Once you know that you need to do the F6 and since you dont have a floppy drive you may just want to modify your windows install CD to install those drivers automatically.
I dont remember exactly how, but I read a few articles about it (just google for it).

Or.. just sped 5 bucks and get a used one from some computer repair store etc... and just temporarily install the floppy for the install process.

Once you can do that, you also need to set the bios to boot off of the correct HD (which from the sound of it you did already).

Hope this helps.
