Hey all

Well I just put together a new system not too long ago and it's been running pretty hot.. ambient temperatures range from 40-50 50 after playing something like CS:Source.. my system consists of an a64 xp3000 newcastle, prolink 6800gt, aopen ak86-l, 1gb corsair pc3200 ram, antec sonata with 2 120mm fans.. the video card reaches around 60c after playing source.. my question is what can I do to make the case's temps go down?
 
That is very hot considering you have 2 120mm case fans. Make sure the one in the front is blowing air in and the one in the back is blowing air out. If they both already were then I would consider upgrading to higher power fans and/or modding the case to allow more airflow in. You could do this by opening up the front of the case more or cutting out a blow hole.

What's the CPU temperature of the system at full load, chances are with that ambient temperature it's pretty close to max thermal specification.
 
in my case the fan in the back is blowing air out and the one in front (which is directly in front of the video card) is blowing air in... so perhaps I should upgrade the fans?
 
Well from the specs on Antecs website it appears the rear 120mm fan included with the case should be more than adequate at exhausting air from the case. According to Antec it pumps 79.06CFM which should be fine.

Is your front mounted fan the same as the rear one? If it is then I think the case has some serious air flow issues because 79CFM in and 79CFM out plus the air flow from your power supply should be enough to keep your computer below 50 degress ambient temperature. In this case make sure theres no obvious obstructions preventing airflow. If you still can't find any problems then look at modifying the case to allow more airflow.

If the fan isn't the same as the rear one then I would look up it's specifications, it should push about the same CFM as the rear fan. If it doesn't then I would look at replacing it.
 
hey I think the problem is that the front fan (vantec stealth) only pushes about 53cfm... hmm I'll probably get another antec..
 
I have the same case. I have a thermaltake 120mm fan on Fan only in the front, and stock exhaust on fan only in the back. I have athlon 64 2800+ with retail hsf. And a leadtek A6600gt with stock cooling. 1 7200 rpm hd also. My ambient is like 32-35, maybe 40 on full load. Cpu is like 38-40 idle. and like 50 full load. I dont even have the front fan connected right now cuz i like my rig quiet as possible :rolleyes:
 
It's normal for your 6800 to run that hot. Also, are you using a stock cooler for your CPU? What kind of thermal interface material? Newcastles run hotter than the newer A64's.
