Please be patient and read this thread, and try to see if you can find the cure.
I bought my eVGA 6800Ultra about 1month ago. I installed it in my computer, which is my 2nd rig now in sig. Well any time I played Doom3 or CounterStrike_Source the game would lock/freeze on me within 5-10min of playing. Joint Op's would work 50/50, sometime it would show me a rainbow of colors right after loading, and entering a game.
So I tried a bunch of stuff to fix, and nothing has worked;
- 3 different nVidia drivers, running driver cleaner each time
- reinstalled OS, fresh drivers
- Bought a new hard drive, fresh OS
- Updated mobo bios, and all other drivers
- CRAZY move, bought a new motherbaord/cpu, and psu now main rig in my sig, installed fresh OS for 3rd time
- updated 6800Ultra bios
I tried all those things above, and NOT one made it work. Well your thinking I am a dumb ass, of course I just have bad video card, time to RMA.
But I let my bro use the card on his system and it works likes a dream, NOT one lock up, and games play smooth as butter for hours on end. My bro is running an Athlon64, nForce3, same hd, only different [H]ardware he has that doesnt match mine is the sound card. He is using a TurtleBeach brand 5.1 auidocard.
Could all this time the problem be the 6800Ultra and Creative sound drivers are not getting alomg, even though I updated the drivers, etc.. I do have an old Hercules GameTheaterXP 5.1 sound card, maybe that will end the BS ?
One important thing, my 9800Pro runs perfect on both these systems
