Need some help please.

Powered on my PC today and was greeted by some unwelcomed beeps. 1 long followed by 2 short and a black screen...no post. A video error if I'm reading correctly. We've had some storms and power outages lately, although my machine is plugged into a surge protector. Disconnected all and powered up with only power and speakers and still the same beeps.

Pulled my 2 cards and tried one at a time in each of my 2 slots. The first card in first slot I got the same beep code. First card in second slot gave me nothing...no beeps, just black screen. Either card in either slot at this time gives no beeps, just a black screen.

I have a feeling my mobo is toast but wanted to get some input before ordering a new board. I realize I need a new build, but don't have the resources to get it done at this point, so I'm stuck ordering another socket 939 board. Any recommendations for an affordable 939 board would be appreciated, assuming the mobo is the problem.

Another related question. If indeed my mobo is dead, can I swap for a different mobo/processor combo and steal keep all other components the same? The price of finding a 939 mobo may be about the same as AM2 with better CPU. But would I need to reinstall windows and go through all that trouble? I just need a quick fix.

It does sound like a mobo issue, but good luck on finding a 939. maybe used on ebay or something. If you don´t find anything answer the build/upgrade questions and the posters around here will get you set up.
 
If you upgrade to AM2 you will be forced to upgrade your ram as well. if you have to go that route you might as well go with an e2200 and a really cheap mobo just to get you going for now. If that is definately not feasible like the poster said above you can try you luck with eBay.
 
Thanks guys. I actually found the same identical mobo that blew out on me this morning on Ebay for $79. Still brand new in the shrink wrap no less.

So one last question. Since I'm dropping in the exact same mobo, what do I need in terms of updates once I power up? Chip set drivers? Updated bios? I'm running a single caviar SATA drive now so no RAID config.

In theory you won't have to do any of that being that it's the same board. In reality.. you may have to reinstall your OS at worst, or authenticate your OS at best. XP / Vista will detects significant hardware changes and my as you to authenticate again. The only other issue is possibly BIOS related, but given the length of time that board has been out, you will probably get away with it.

As for drivers, those are all software, and with you plugging in your single drive, it "shouldn't" be a problem.

You can have my old Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe. S939. Just need to replace the CMOS battery.
