Hi here are my system specs:

Lian Li PC-75B Full Tower

Antec Power supply TrueBlue480

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1MB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor - OEM

ABIT K8T800 Motherboard for Athlon64 Socket 754 Processors, Model "KV8-MAX3"

Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu Pure Copper CPU Cooler for AMD XP Socket 754

Mushkin 184 Pin 512MBx2 DDR PC-3500 Level II Dual Pack -

Western Digital 120GB 7200RPM SATA HARD DRIVE

Lite On LTR-52327S Black 52x32x52 CD-RW Drive,

Guillemot Hercules RADEON 9800XT, 256MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP

MITSUMI D359M3D Black 1.44MB 3.5INCH Floppy Disk Drive

i assembled everything correctly, and when i put in my sata boot up disk, notjing happens, i try to install winxp pro preinstallation, it freezes sometimes during the "Please wait" procedure, one time it restarted the system and did the same cycle again, i tried installing just winxp pro, after it ran thru preperation it gave me an error, a sofware error code 7? some one please help me i dont know what to do?

Sorry i dont have an answer to your problem but i just wanted to point something out since it looks like you copied and pasted this info off the site you ordered from.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1MB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor - OEM

Thats incorrect because the A64 3000+ only has 512kb L2 Cache.

so far heres where i am at:

After i ran windows setup and it loaded all the files, and when it says window is now starting i get this error: " The File NTFS.SYS is corrupted"

Second attempt during windows setup in the middle of it loading the files from cdrom i get this error: : File hal.ll could not be loaded, The error code is 7"

Third attempt after windows setup says its now starting windows i get this error: "MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS"
Technical info: ***stop: 0x00000044 (0x867CB718, 0x00000D60, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I have no idea what all that means, any help would be appreciated...

Is this one of those boards that use a RAID bios to access the SATA HD? If so are you using it? Do you hit F6 during your XP install?

Why don't you call M$ or the company you bought it from to install XP?

You need to crank up the voltage for your memory. I had similar problems with my mushkin memory also. Not sure how high the bios on that board will allow but try 2.7 or 2.8 voltage setting to your memory.

It's definitely a RAM problem. If it was another hardware problem it would be failing the same way every time. Whatever is ending up loaded into the bad RAM segment is what's failing.

After i put the voltage on 2.8, it let me go further this time, now im stuck at the last point of winxp pro installation, were it says registering components/saving your settings, 5 min remaining, etc.; during those and between those installations i keep getting these types of errors:

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Beginning dump of physical memory. Physical memory dump complete

One time i got this error:

***win32k.sys-Adress BF87056 base at BF800000, datestamp 3d6de5e5

I gotten further, but still cant install winxp pro, i get those types of errors at the last step of installation were it says like 5 min left, saving your settings....

Now what can i do, upping the voltage memory helped me get further, i tried 2.9 volts the system wont boot, i tried 2.7v not enogh to get me even thru half way of OS installation, what can i do?

RMA it.

This is why i will never buy any other ram other then Corsair, i have had to many problems with different companies including Mushkin

Yes, but you pay a premium.

I've never had any problems with Mushkin. Incompatibilities is a mixed virtue for all RAM manufacters. Corsair isn't any better or worse then Mushkin with this problem. I know several people that have gotten rid of their corsair for mushkin and their troubles were gone.

It all just depends on the motherboard your using.

ok. i tried each stick individually, and both of them keep crashing my system, to my surprise i thought is was only one faulty memory stick, but it appears that its both of them, how does RMA work? i got 1gig 2sticks mushkin lvl2 pc3500 from newegg and i need to return it, they sent me faulty memory....

might want to try memtest86 or whatever it is called, might help to tell if the ram is bad, might not though who knows just a suggestion

Try lowering the memory settings cas 3.0. That may let you install and after that you can tweak memory for optimal performance. I doubt you got 2 bad sticks of ram but it can happen.

Best way to RMA is to call them for RMA number. Then order more memory so you arent waiting around for it to ship out. They will credit your card back when they receive the memory back. Also ask them for free overnight shipping to make up for your inconvenience.

My system works with SPD (Auto) options for the memory, on a different K8T800 motherboard, but don't work with the CAS at 2 (even though the memory specifications would indidcate that you can run it like that.) Probably don't need so much voltage... just try +0.1 like 2.6V. But don't push the CAS real low... either set it to 2.5 or 3 manually, or see what the Auto options give you.

i just ran a memory test, i downloaded memory analysys from microsoft, and put it on a floppy and booted up my rig, only 1 test passed, the rest failed, so its the memory then right?

i tried running mem86 test, after it read the floppy it gave me an error, so it is faulty memory, im gonna RMA it ASAP.

ok, i contacted newegg, and sent them back my mushkin pc3500 2x512 lvl2, theyll send me new ones as soon as they receive my defective ones. Hopefully its just the ram and ill have no other problems, will see when i receive my memory and will go from there...

Yea I had 2 bad sticks of ram ordered once...man that pissed me off. I think it was Kingston ram, cant remember.

ok, i got my mushkin lvl2 pc3500 2x512 from newegg, and i got it to work.

Heres how:

At first I had some problems, but I managed to get them all resolved. Bios 17 fixed many of the issues.

One thing to note is that some RAM chips, like my mushkin, will not even post with the default BIOS ram voltage of 2.55v. I had to put in a 512meg corsair stick to get the board to post, change the voltage to 2.65V, and then put in my mushkin ram.

My Tips are:
1. Make sure you update to BIOS 17 (latest) right away.

2. Set your BIOS settings to the ones lost circuits used: http://www.lostcircuits.com/motherb...kv8max3/8.shtml

3. Don't try and run ram timings of 2-2-2. 2-3-2 is the fastest timings you should use. The reason for this, according to mushkin, is the RAM controller on the A64 runs at 2ghz and has a tendency to issue the read command a bit too early. The timings are: CAS:tRCD:tRP

Basically, you want to get 2-2-2 RAM and run it at 2-3-2. If you get 2-3-2 RAM you will have to run it at 2-4-2.

It took me a long time to figure out the above =)

I wouldn't worry too much about overclocking. The board by default will overclock the system to 2.04Ghz, which you can disable in BIOS. The A64's don't seem to be very good overclockers, although I admit I haven't really tried to OC mine, and probably wont, its very fast, and loading times are very impressive, once i defrag the HD it will be even faster...

I was sold on the abit because of the OTES, lack of legacy ports (finally), and the great Si SATA controller. Also the uGuru monitoring chip/software is pretty nice.

This should help those of you who will be building amd64 system in the near future, if you have any other questions for me since i spent quite some time trying to get my system to work, just ask...

Glad you got it working. The bit on the Mushkin ram not posting @ 2.55V is interesting. That would suck majorly if you didn't have the extra stick of Corsair to put in there and change the Vdimm to 2.65V.
