I currently have my e6300@3.4ghz (486x7) with some corsair 800mhz memory running at 972mhz with 5-5-5-12 timing running rock stable! I'm trying to get to 3.6~3.7ghz with memory timings of 4-4-4-12. I know that my e6300 can handle it but my current memory can’t, even with very loose timings.

I'm looking the buy some G.Skill memory with really good timings. I don't wanna spend more than $260. I got it down to these two.

I know I could get to 1066 with the first one but I'm not to sure about the second one, but the timings on the second are really good. Anyway, which one would give me the highest overclock with the tightest timings?

Your opinions are much appreciated.

ive never heard anything about the second one. but there is a g.skill rep or 2, and a g.skill monitored forum over at xtremesystems.com that can probably give you the correct info about this. also, its probably been tested on the extreme bandwidth or intel forums over there.

i have the first one. it needs a little voltage to hit 1066 4-4-4-12. like around 2.2-2.3v. i realize theres a couple guys who probably reach these speeds/timing at almost 0 volts, prime stable for 700 hours, but for the most part it need some vdimm.

you can save $70 or $80 by buying this

which is a great overclocker, and uses slighty less voltage than the g.skill hz. tight timings are not a factor in conroe performance, so i wouldnt worry too much about this.

Thanks for the reply. So that patriot memory is hitting 1066? and at what timings? Thats kinda hard to believe that those sticks are hitting that type of speed and I would be a little skeptical buying them because right now I'm at 972mhz with some corsiar ddr-800 at 5-5-5-12 and can't go any further. I think I would have better chances with the g.skills or these.

Also, why do you say timing doesn't matter with conroe? I can boot up with 4-4-4-12 timing @ 972mhz (not stable) and I notice a difference over the looser timing 5-5-5-12.

you will see that in all but 1 or 2 synthetic benchmarks, pc2 3200 4-4-4-12 performed within 4 or 5% of pc2 6400 4-4-4-12. thats generic memory running at exactly one half the speed. also you will see the differences between same speed memory with tighter timings is just about non-existant ie the diff between ddr2 800 4-4-4-12 and ddr2 800 5-5-5-15 is 4 tenths of a percent. save your money.
