Iam planning on buying a new lcd display and found out i want a 20" because of the nice resolution (1680*1050).

So i have been searching throught this forum and the net and found out three possible displays:

LG L204WT

Samsung Syncmaster 205BW

Viewsonic VX2025wm

On the paper the LG looks really strong and is at the same time the least expensive display wich i find very confusing. The Syncmaster is a recommendation from a freind, the same with the Viewsonic. The Viewsonic seems to be a quality monitor but is the most expensive and i don't need the speakers.

So what do you guys say? Is there any other 20" display in the same price group thats better and is the LG really as good as the specs sais.

Please help me decide this :D!

Please, someone must have some thoughts?

Iam really in need of help and you guys seems kinda pro ;) .

FWIW I'll stick with the kings NEC and Sony they have a name to uphold and use the best panels.

But they are much more expensive. I do like Sony very much.

But if i ask this question instead, what display has the best image quality with price lower than 500$ and 20". I don't really want to waste money on something i will regret later.

The quality seems very good and the price is ok.

But the response time is "only" 16ms, how good is that for games?

I use my computer for games, movies and pictures.

OK, out of the ones listed I prefer the techology used in the Viewsonic VX2025wm..it's a P-MVA (AUO M201EW01 V0) ...I can't comment on any of them from first hand viewing just the tech behind it, it's superior to the others and reviews very well....

Since you think Sony and NEC are overpriced you can get similar quality for cheap inside:

Dell 2007WFP as low as $380 on sale from dell.<<< Best monitor deal bar none. S-IPS for less than $400 is incredible.

I've also seen the Samsung SyncMaster 215TW as low as $429 which is just smokin.

Those numbers don't mean anything they could say 1ms and no one is to stop them. The Dell actually tells the truth over wide color range instead of cherry picked color or outrigtht lies like by other makers, usually 2nd tier wannabes. Look at the review provided.. you'll see 16ms Dell laying the smack down on so-called 5ms displays.

You'll be fine for games, as good as any other LCD.. with superior color, whites and viewangles to boot. Go for it.

Thanks for the answers.

Right now it's a battle between the Dell 2007WFP and the Viewsonic VX2025wm. Both seems to be very nice monitors and the Dell is looking hot!

But there is one more thing.

"You can buy a monitor equipped with a specific panel, but it won’t be the same the next month. Obviously Dell takes a great liberty here as the 2007WFP can be equipped with IPS panels… or MVAs. It will depend on the season, wholesale prices they obtain, or possible product shortages. Liquid crystals change as well as electronic components, afterglow, viewing angles, and movies. So, how can consumers rely on test results under these circumstances? "

This makes me confused. The monitor is as low as 400$ on Dell at the moment but is there a big chanse that i get the worse of the two?

No that info turned out to be false. Only the 2007fp had a panel lottery with it. For now, all 2007wfp are guaranteed to have an S-IPS panel.

depends what your doing with the monitor, im a gamer, and do SOME photoshop. i have an LG L204WT, its an 8bit TN panel, 5ms response G2G, 2000:1 dynamic contrast, 800:1 real, and i LOVE IT. it shows NO ghosting in games and has amazing colors, i too looked at the dell 2007 but decided to save 100$ and go with the LG, and im glad i did, i read wayyy too many issues with the dell, the banding got the most crap, they "fixed" it in A02. but only for desktop mode..... what if i dont use desktop mode.... unless your ONLY doing photoshop i wouldnt recomend the dell. yes its the IPS panel, has better viewing angles than a TN, but the NEW 8bit panel that the LG and others are using, the pic. quality is on par with the dell, or so close that you wont notice it. unless your sitting on top of your monitor, the viewing angles are not an issue, the hoizontal on my LG is fine, the vertical i get some magenta colors, but again, i sit IN FRONT of my monitor, dunno about the rest of you. as far as the 2025, that was set up where i got my LG and the LG had MUCH better pic quality, essp. the blacks and whites than the 2025.

I think you're confused about what desktop mode for the 2007wfp actually is. It's fine for everything. The other modes are just gamma adjustments and aren't really necessary. They're not some magical modes for gaming/movies or anything, they're just different presets. I've had no problems playing games in dekstop mode. If you want the best quality then you need to get an S-IPS panel. I wouldn't get another TN panel. I also have a 19 inch dell TN panel and the 2007wfp blows it away in terms of quality and colour reproduction.

Only IPS screens are in the game IMO. Thier color, white, viewangle AND Speed surpases everything nowadays with overdrive. It's not even close.. I can be browsing at frys and see an IPS from the others walking the isles let alone if I get close.

These guys buying TN's are doing so for price cuz they cheap and have never done an A/B clone test with any IPS side by side. They would'nt recommened them if so. And S-PVA screens which samsung's mainly have same deal. they are "in the middle".. Theres a reason IPS costs lots of money ya know..be lucky Dell buys in quanity and can offer one under $400 when no one else can..

Again Dell 2007WFP

....

I have the VX2025wm and was disappointed with it. The main problem is the horrible screen coating that Viewsonic have used. It is hard to describe but distorts the picture underneath in a VERY obvious way. Some people say it looks like the screen is covered in a layer of dirty water. I have a strong urge to wipe it clean ...not that that would make any difference. Be warned though, I have heard the Dell has a very similar problem but a lot of dell owners don’t seem to mention it (denial? or poor eyesight?) You should seriously consider going for a screen with a glossy coating at least you can do something about reflections, I’m stuck with this dam glitter :(

Also the viewing angles on the Viewsonic are terrible! You only have to move your head a tiny fraction and the contrast completely changes. Don’t believe what is said about PVA all the screens I’ve seen with TN panels recently are far superior.

Oh and in order to get a good range of contrast on the Viewsonic (i.e. no banding) you have to set it to sRGB mode which has the brightness/gamma fixed at a ridiculously high level so movies games etc. look terrible.

If I had to make a choice between the two I would go for the Dell but I would much rather something like the NEC 20WGX2 with its glossy screen or even the 19¨ version if the price is an issue. A smaller clearer picture is much better than a big distorted one.

By the way I’m an artist and use my screen for digital painting so maybe I’m being a bit picky, but when you are spending this much I think everyone should be.
