Set up new system today.

Turned it on and it sparked with fumes. (tried it twice because im an idiot). I took it apart and saw a screw inbetween the mobo and the case's tray.

It was a 1000W PSU (corsair)

i tried it outside of the case and it wont turn on, i dont have another system to test it with.

I had a 4870x2 in there, i was wondering what was the most likely damage?

I willing to bet that the mobo is fried because of the fumes. Could you test the powersupply in a different machine? Vid card, ram and processor are probably fine (hopefully).

the fumes were from the PSU...im just wondering if it wasnt the screw (because im not sure if the screw was there from the beginning or just when i was taking it apart to see what was wrong?

I had a lot of (expensive :( ) things attached to that psu and im not sure my wiring was 100%...could that have caused it? or is it most likely the screws?

I dont have another machine to test it on unfortunately..
Thank you..

I had one experience in the past where I had an extra metal post under the motherboard causing a short. It did not damage anything but the machine would restart over and over. I would say that its hard to tell if anything is damaged besides the PSU until you get a new PSU installed.

About the wiring...

I have never fried a PSU by incorrectly hooking up the wires. Usually it will cause the system to not start or it will be beeping at you.

GL man, hopefully you can RMA that PSU and get your build back on track. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
