ok, here it is, my wifes computer, it is a desktop, and tonite she got up for a bathroom break and came back to her comp and her connection was now listed as "Limited" for all purposes it was non existant, i have disabled and enabled the nic (which is on board the mobo) several times, unplugged it, rebooted it, rebooted the switch, and it still will not function, i think the onboard nic has gone bad, and i will need to pick up a new one and stick it into a pcix slot.

also tried downloading and installing latest drivers from manufacturer, and they wont install, the installer says it can not detect any devices to install too.

Well at least they are cheap to replace. Probably not worth wasting any more time fighting with, depending on how much your time is worth. :)

Have you tried connecting to the internet with a different device? If only that computer isn't working there could be a problem with the NIC, but if you've got other devices not connecting out, your ISP has a problem.

Failing that, if you've got a router and you do have multiple devices, it's possible your lease time expired on the router right around then, and while assigning new IP's two devices were assigned the same IP. This is highly unlikely, but not totally unheard of.

In command prompt on your computer, type in (without the quotes) "ipconfig /release all"

then "ipconfig /renew" and wait for a bit

Once that's done, try again. That will force a release and new assignment from the router (which would erase any IP conflicts if they exist). If that doesn't work, check if your other devices can connect out or not (both wired and wireless) - switch your Ethernet cable to a different port in the router. If multiple devices aren't working, or your computer is your only device and it doesn't work in a different port - contact your ISP.

Beyond that, then I'd say it's a problem with the nic.
