I just had a HUGE problem thrown in my lap and was hopeing someone here could help me out. My brother is working on a thesis to graduate and his computer crashed last night. He had the paper backed up, but not resently. He will lose 40 pages of work if I cant find a way to get the informtaion off of the HD. I took out his HD and installed it on another computer as a slave. The HD appears in MY Computer but has no size and can not be opened. Is there any method to get this information off? He only needs a few texts files and he will be fine.

Its a 4 year old dell with windows xp running NTFS

I put the drive back into origonal computer. It still finds it but it boots to the screen about unexpectedly shut off with options for safe mode, last known good config, and normal start. When safe mode is selected it takes about 2 min then starts scrolling multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) with some drives and files after that then it blue screens and restarts. I really need to get this information off please help. Someone being able to graduate on time is riding on this.
 
If you put it as a slave in another computer and couldn't do anything with it then, I would say you need to look up a data recovery house in your area, and fast!


Oh, and have your wallet ready.
 
Another thing to consider would be dropping it back in another computer, and then running a data recovery program like Getdataback, to see if it can recover the files. You won't be able to until you pay for it, but it's still nice to be able to try before you buy. Good luck
 
Thanks for the ideas everyone. I paid 90 bucks to get Spinrite and ran that all night. Even though I only got a few % done I was able to stop the process and put the HD as slave in another machine and get most of the stuff needed off. It was a pure miricle. Again thank you everyone for the help.
