HI All

I purchased a couple of ps2 a couple of years ago and they broke down within a couple of months. Did Sony ever work the bugs out of these units or do they still break down?

I've had a slim ps2 for over a year now.. not one issue yet.

I've had a slim factor one as well for a while and it's fine after these years.

The earlier tank PS2 models may have had reliability issues though, like the disc read error problem that affected a large number of people.

Yep, I've had my slim version for awhile now as well the same as above two guys and it works good still not one problem(knock on wood). I keep it dusted off and placed in a good spot with the cover closed on it when not in use.

I have a Phat one, pretty old. Can't remember which model number at the moment, and I can't be bothered looking, but it's still going strong.

i have the fat one as well, and i got it on launch day, and it has just now become un playable because of the disk read error. I have to play around with it for about a half an hour in order for it to read any disks.

YMMV, but my V3 is doing just fine since launch as well. Sony did switch to more reliable mechanical parts in the drive for later versions, but a DRE is uaully a pretty easy or cheap fix.

I'll take this chance to poke fun at mech engineer's and their designs. (I'm an EE/CE).

Have a US launch PS2, still kicking just fine. My launch Gamecube died about 3 years ago, though, and the replacement was starting to get buggy just before I got my Wii.

I wouldnt say that.

I only know of heating issues at launch and the disc read error.

My old ps2 as well as almost all of my friends are still kicking. However my xbox360 on my 3rd one, who ever made the 3 red lights of death can DIAF.

My PS2 that I have had for 4years is still kicking and have not had one single issue. Though my 360 that I have had for 2 months is showing signs of trouble.

It's luck of the draw just like with anything.

I had an older model PS2 that I got used from someone and it ran fine the whole time I had it and the person I sold it to hasn't had any problems that I know of.

My new slim PS2 works fine, though I haven't been playing a whole lot lately.

My PS2 that was manufactured in 2001 is still working, although I can't say that about my friend's. He's had bad luck and has gone through about 3 himself.
