I copied a game (Far Cry) from my dvd over to my hd and tried to play it from there so it would speed up play but it still asks for the dvd. I thought there was a way to point it to the location on my hd. Any ideas on how to do this?
Thanks

Fair warning, this sounds like warez talk. If you have the DVD, put it in the drive. Asking about copy protection work arounds is not welcom here. Read the rules if you have any questions.

It's not a copy protection workaround.Making a disc image is a completely legal way to play your game.

Try reinstalling the game from the virtual drive. Also it wouldn't speed up play as nothing is being accessed from the disc.

legal or not.. almost all forums are completely anal about this subject, it turns normal admins into the gestapo. Just using an image application won't work on the newest games, you have to have a cd crack.

True, but I've heard this cuts down on load times.

I ran Far Cry off my harddrive after making an image of the dvd without any trickery. You must have screwed something up.

I'm guessing original poster did not make an image, just select all -> copy -> paste

Look into a disc emulator program like Daemon Tools

This is because it is impossible to tell if this is a legit request, or if the poster rented a copy of the game, copied it, and is trying to play a game he or she did not pay for. And it's not that we are trying to be gestapos, it's plain and simple against the rules. I'm locking this now. Any complaints can be made to a higher authority, if you feel the need. PM an admin, but i'm sure they will say the same as i have.
