Have a look at this photo of a system installed in a P180 case.

With no fan installed in the top blow hole, should the hole be closed off so as not interrupt the flow of air from the front vents across the MB and out the back? Also what do think about the open slots where add in cards would go? I know NOTHING about case cooling, but this just looks strange to me.
 
System was shipped with no fan in the top blow hole. When system is running, unfiltered air is sucked INTO the case through this hole. Been running some video processing programs and tracking temperatures of the CPU, chip set and hard drives. With no load there is no difference in temperatures between the hole being covered or uncovered, but during heavy load the CPU and chip set run 2-3 degrees centigrade cooler when top vent is BLOCKED OFF, no difference (as expected) in hard drive temperatures. Thought I would pass my results along to others. Temperatures were measured using SpeedFan and PC Wizard 2007.
 
yeah, I would have guessed that... Large open holes near fans tend to be where the air will get pulled from.... even air is lazy, takes the easy way.
