Plausible idea?

I was in a place where I needed wireless internet, but there wasn't any. the only internet related thing was a port in the wall. I was wondering if it is at all possible to build a small adapter that would have a male ethernet plug on one end of the box and a small wireless antenna on the other end.... Any reason why this shouldn't work?
