Plasma screen TVs

I have a 50" G15 which is pretty much the same as the G10 except it has a thinner profile. The screen and cabinet between both models are identical, the only differences are the number and types of inputs and extra software features.

The G10 has a PC input (the old D-15 type), a network port, and I think an analog audio out that the S1's don't have.

On the software side there is a lot more extras. There is Vieracast, a type of IPTV that allows you to connect and stream Youtube directly to the TV, you can even log on to your youtube account from within the TV. It also has the same functionality for Picasa photo albums. You can also log on to the Amazon Video on demand streaming store and stream HD movies, TV series, directly to the TV. It also gives you a nice Local weather display with dopler radar and 5 day forecast, oh and also Bloomberg stock quotes that you can customize.
It has Vieralink, a feature that lets you control any compatible piece of equipment that is connected via HDMI with the TV remote control (like a universal remote built in over HDMI). It can connect to your network camera as well. It can play AVCHD movies and Jpeg pictures from SD cards as well.

On the picture control side of things the software gives you a lot more options than the S1. It has a built in THX mode which looks pretty nice. There is a lot of options for all kinds of digital filtering should you want to use them and it has a GAME mode that makes video game signals more vibrant.

That's all the differences I can think of from memory.

I just got the TC-P42S1, awesome TV overall and excellent picture.

A few of the things Lorien mentioned the S1 does have just like the G10. The main difference between the S1 and G10 is going to be Vieracast which is network features as Lorien pointed out. Pretty limited IMO, but some really like it. Other differences:

-A few more color temp. modes
-Analog Audio out (S1 only has digital out)
-Round stand vs. rectangle
-48Hz 24p mode (this is really pointless though as it has noticeable flicker and is better to just do pulldown which both the S1 and G10 do the same).
-THX Mode (Just different picture settings again...not a huge deal in my book)
-AVCHD playback (helpful if you have an HD camcorder...still not really a big deal at all for most though as you can just hook your camcorder up)

The S1 can play pictures from SD cards, has a Game mode (though it really is just brighter picture settings on either TV), and has very similar picture quality. The S1 has Vieralink just like the G10 and can control other panasonic equipment over HDMI.

Really the only reason for the G10 IMO is if you want the network features, the other things are just tiny and/or minor to most. You can get a TON of adjustments on either for the picture using the service menu. Both are VERY similar in PQ when you use settings from users over at www.avsforum.com.

Hmmm. the youtube thing might be useful for me, as I don't get to see my shows do to working nights. However, I don't know if it's 100 dollars useful.

...network features... Pretty limited IMO

If you have not experienced the feature you cannot qualify how limited it may or may not be. For further clarification see my sig

I have played around with them and seen the formats they support, IMO it is better to grab a WDTV Live or the like (Roku/ASUS O!Play/etc.) for the money....for some though it might be perfect and worth the money.

But nice try ;)

Kicking myself in the ass now because the s1 isn't on sale anymore. Guess its the G10 or nothing now.
