I'm asking this question for a friend who has a plasma HDTV. When he is using the component connection for DVD in progresive scan mode he gets horizontal tearing of the screen about one third down during bright flashing lights, fire scenes etc. Only using progressive scan though and not at 30hz. We thought it might be the DVD player so today we hooked up a new HDDVD player and on component it still does the same thing but not using HDMI, which is also progressive scan. Anyone here experience this problem before with a plasma TV using component in progressive scan mode?

I've had a plasma for almost 2 years now with no problems on any of the inputs including component. I would try different component cables before anguishing over a borked plasma...it could just be the component input module needs to be replaced which won't be cheap but much better than replacing the whole thing. Is the thing still under warranty?

edit- What brand and model? If he has a Commercial model like my Panasonic the input modules can be ordered and installed yourself.

It's called a Legend LEP4228 and is manufactured by Prima. From what he has come across on the the web about it it uses a Panasonic panel but I don't know if that is true or not. We've used two different component cables so it's not that causeing it. Tonight he found others on the web with Prima plasma TV's that have the same issue so we are going to have it looked at by tech and think it must be something wrong with the component input electronics, as you said, and not the panel itself as it is fine on HDMI.
