I have seen this mod done a few years back... nothing really recent. I have been wanting to do this mod to my Antec 900, and before doing so, I would like a reply.

Here is a picture quickly done in Photoshop to give a better idea of what I would like to do:

The Plasma Ball will be powered by USB and a USB adapter will be used to hook it up internally to a USB header.

In the yellow square in my picture, is there any type of 3x5.25" blank plate (not the single plates) that I can use/find? Basically, a plate that takes up 3 - 5.25" spots. If not, I am sure I can use something black, or aluminum, folded to size on a brake. The hole for the plasma ball will be slightly smaller than the diameter.

Here are a few pictures of others mods:

Let me know whats up.

Couple issues I see.
What is the power draw on one of those, if its more than the USB spec you will need to use a molex.
And don't these generate alot of heat?
Also those things generate alot of static, something that is not very good for computers. Not sure if theres any way of grounding it to reduce this, but it is something to consider.

The website where I had planned on picking one up has a short video of using the plasma ball. Simply plug into USB port. I do know the USB power is less than 12V.

I do not know about the heat this will create, nor have I read anything yet on it.

As far as static, a few sites mention "No EMI interference is caused by this device." and similiar statements, so I do not see it as a major problem.

A few more pictures of the look I am going for:

The USB spec is 5v @ 500mah. Chances are good the manufacturer is within this or they wouldn't utilize a USB port for power. I really doubt this thing is putting off much heat either.
