Anyone use a plasma TV (42 inch 1080p) as their primary monitor? Thoughts?

I was thinking about using one for the awesome black levels. I video game on this computer not much of any thing else.

Image retention (IR) is something I'd be concerned about when using plasma as a PC monitor.

I have a plasma TV and for watching TV/movies it's fantastic!
But I don't think I'd want to use one as an everyday computer monitor.
For that, stick to LCD or LED...

Be aware that plasmas need more work and babysitting when used as primary monitors.

Plasmas also often look different up close than they do from >5ft away, you can often see pixels, especially green ones, shimmering across the screen, and this effect is normal for many models. It can be tweaked away but are you ready for more work? Fonts will be softer and not as sharp as LCD.

If it's only inky blacks you're after then you have a few drawbacks you'll have to be willing to compromise with. The 42" panasonic S2 1080P would be the one to try however, it would have the least image retention.

Cliff notes: It will likely not work, nor look, the way you're expecting it to.

my 2c, coming from a plasma fan.

True true. I'll have to look into what the warranty is for that. I generally play for a couple of hours. It's true that these games have static images.

I recently bought a 65 inch plasma for the main TV after having LCD tv for years. I am so impressed with this tv. Just thinking how a plasma would be as a computer monitor.

Currently I am using a 3007. It's a great monitor but with dark / black levels being the major weak point.

One of the issues I have is I can't set (or I don't know how to) keep the monitor calibrated. Everytime Ioad up a game it goes to the default setting.

If you know do tell. I am using an ATi 5850 and Windows 7, fully updated.

I'm using a 50" Panasonic VT25 3D plasma in my bedroom / office and it is a great TV to say the least!
Occasional gaming is fine on it, but I'd be worried using it as my full time computer monitor.

For PC duty I have two Dell U2711's that have excellent black levels.
I would hope that the new 30" U3011 is as good, but I haven't tried one yet to know.

I was looking at the G25 in 42 inches at a replacement. I'll look into the U3011, specifically reviews comparing it to the 3007.
