Plans For a Qpack

Opinions, Better choices, and Mistakes I'm making, etc... Please.

Heres my specs:

- Qpack (Black, No windows.)
- NEC DVD Burner
- Foxconn NF4K8MC-EKRS Socket 939 Motherboard
- AMD Athlon64 3200+
- 1 Gig of Patriot Ram
- 256mb Sapphire Radeon x850xt


Now....this is a budget machine, and Im not willing to spend much more on this, but Im wondering how the terrible 420w standard PSU will hold up until I get a decent one (a few months later).

Uh, and Im going to overclock the living hell out of all of that - plan to add the Zalman GPU cooler and Zalman all copper CPU cooler as well in the long run. Ive heard great things about overclocking of x850xt, but that it runs somewhat hot. Anyone have this card? ANd I know that the 3200+ will overclock just fine.

The Foxconn mobo you want to get has no overclocking options.

You will locate this mobo in the 939 socket section and will see that it has zero overclocking ability.

The Biostar 6100-939 has amazing OCing abilities, that's what I'm using right now. And to OC, you'll need a good power suppy, I'm pretty sure the qpack won't hold up.

Whoops, posted the wrong motherboard.

I was planning to get the Foxconn 6150K8MA-8EKRS. I chose it over the Biostar because it has higher north/south bridges, and my friend has it and has had no problems.

heads up: my friend bought the Qpack about a month before me. He used the stock PSU and *coincidence* his mobo died about a week before I bought my Qpack. lol, he does not even overclock and he was using a 5700LE vid card. I used the PSU that came with it for about 2 hours. I was seeing the 12v rail dropping to ~11.7 with no overclock or real load on the system(7800GT, one optical drive and a single IDE drive, on windows desktop!). I am not sure I would trust the damned things to be honest with you.

I used the PSU that came with my q-pack for a month and a half and never had a problem with it with everything at stock. It's not great but not the monster everyone makes out imo

No problems with stock PSU yet...surprisingly. I have 2 y-splitters on the PSU leads (1 for Audigy and the other for optical drive). Played and finished F.E.A.R. with everything on high. Been playing BF2 for a week.

I'm still a little anxious about the integrity of the stock Aspire 420W PSU but we'll see how it holds up with further testing. This is my first PC build from scratch in a LONG time. I'm hoping this rig holds up.
