im using a amd 2500+
on a abit nf7-s ver 2.0

Right now not under load my temps are 30c for the system and 50c for the cpu....
is abit reading it higher then normal?
cause that seems very hott...

My other question is whats a good heatsink too lower my temps...

and another question is using the abit board i have my settings at...
the 2500+ setting...
would it be possible to just set it on 3200+ settings?
or do i have to manually bring my fsb up...and by what increments....
also will i have to mess with my ram?

I'm assuming you're going to have to check out what the normal temps for that cpu are...just google it because i'm too lazy. To answer your third question, you're probably going to have to do it manually. I'm doubting you'll be able to achieve that on a 1:1 ratio, so you'll probably have to drop your ram frequency down a notch, maybe loosen up your timings, and raise your FSB. You'll also have to raise the voltage to the cpu and possibly the RAM.
 
damn i didnt wanna mess with those settings and voltage and such... i thought i could just raise the fsb :(
 
Oh, you can just raise the FSB, but you wont get 3200+ speeds I wouldn't think. You might be able to go 1:1 ratio for a little bit, but eventually you're going to have to start really fine tuning.
 
yea i got some...last time i applied it on was when i built my pc...
but i thought 2500+ could hit 3200+ speeds easily

That's some pretty nice RAM. You should be able to hit those speeds pretty easily, but I doubt you will get it with a 1:1 ratio. Just raise your FSB in increments of 5 or so and test it. Every time run prime95 for about 2-3 hours to check stability and run sandra each time as well. See what you are gaining if anything. Once it wont boot windows, prime95 gives errors, or it wont post anymore, that's when you're gonna have to start increasing voltage/loosen timings/set dividers/etc...

lol, not all chips are like that. You will prolly need a bump in vcore but not too much, still an easy OC nonetheless

a 1:1 ratio is when you set your FSB to the same frequency as your RAM, which is usually the default for most computers. So, you have your FSB set to 200mhz with a 10x multiplier giving you an effective 2.0ghz cpu speed. If you want to OC your cpu to 2.1 then, since I believe most cpu's are top locked on the multi, you would want to push your FSB to 210 with a 10x multiplier (the 10x multi is top end with the amd64 so we stick with it). When doing this to the FSB, unless otherwise told, you ram will also automatically follow suit and be pushed to 210 x2 (doubledata rate "DDR" memory) giving you an effective 420mhz. So, basically, a 1:1 raio is setting your FSB frequency, before it is multiplied, equal to your RAM frequency before it is multiplied. 200/200, 220/220, etc...
 
Personally, I'll only OC something if I can do it in the BIOS. If you have a motherboard that has a BIOS that allows you to adjust these things, I'd do it from there. I'll never fully trust a windows app to honestly OC my equip.

Not necessarily. That's the surest and safest way. Personally, I will see if it boots into windows and then run Aquamark followed by 3dmark05. If it gets past those 2 progs then I start doing some real testing as described above. Usually when things aren't right it will error out in 3dmark05 when its trying to switch from the first test to the second. At least in my limited experience. :)
 
I guess you could do it that way. I always do prime95 first because most often an OC will fail because of RAM problems. After I get a stable prime95 setup for a few hours I will use other benches (usually sandra). Then, once I get it to the highest speeds stable after the 1-2hr tests I'll run a 24hr prime95 stress test.
 
now that's a bit more tricky...make sure you have proper cooling for that one :)

im not too worried bout my pc temps...ranges from 27c-30c...
and its a 9800np and has the samsung chip so im hopin itll hit 9800pro easily :D
 
PC temps have very little to do with video card temps. 9800pros run hot as crap, when overclocking a chip that isn't necessarily built for that speed, the temperature is even more. I've always felt that OC'ing a video card is much more dangerous than OC'ing a cpu just for the basic fact that the cpu has a huge HSF on it, and it has temp diods that are read by the bios and other programs.

Anyway, while your pc is at 27c, you have no idea what your card is running at :)
 
hehe im 24 mhz faster thana 3200 and i have volcano 11 xp 2500 (medium speed)

100% load on nice day ~ 37*C

i have my cpu upped by 0.5% volts

assuming you have your thermal paste applied correctly the temps you are getting are far too high if ur in a 70*F room~
