The following arrived yesterday:
2 x ASUS Z8NA-D6 Dual LGA 1366 Intel 5500 ATX Dual Intel Xeon
4 x Intel Xeon E5504 Nehalem 2.0GHz LGA 1366 80W Quad-Core Server Processor

waiting on heatsinks and RAM now. :D

didn't they make the a3 core so that there is no performance gain from HyperThreading? Even without HT these rigs will be great for regular SMP. Then when bigadv gets moved over to a3 it will be great for that as well.

Yes

On a budget and was concentrating on wanting 8 real cores, and really wanted to play with a dual cpu setup.

BTW, these will be running native linux, likely openSuse, but haven't decided for sure.

Very nice builds, lassiterb! I'm impressed by everyone's dual S1366 projects. Unfortunately, it will be quite some time before I build one myself, probably not before next year until an affordable OCable setup is available. I like all the horsepower people are putting towards the team. It sure reminds me of the old days. Awesome! :cool:
 
Just fired up box number 1 on a bigadv unit (my first), will post the PPD once it has run long enough to get some numbers from it.
Running native linux on openSuse 11.2

Very interested in seeing these numbers but you might be better off running regular A3's. Not sure how bigadv will do with 8 cores at 2.0 GHz. However, the only way to find out is to do what you are doing. :D

looks like an aprox. TPF of 38.5 min (figured manually, so might not be correct)

According to "Folding@home Bigadv Bonus Point Calculator" it should yield around 20129 PPD and a completion time of 2.67 days
 
Well, those frame times aren't as bad as I thought. That is about 38m 21s TPF for a PpD of 20247 points. 53923 points per unit.
 
Not bad at all. Is there anyway to do a software OC like I do on my ATOM's?
Must be the real core/HT issue, they seem to be doing pretty well, I wish my Opty's could hit those numbers
 
I think the issue is that with the new procs, they don't have a FSB to OC.

but for the money, are they really doing that well? I spent far less on my 920 setup and it is doing 8K more PpD.
 
That doesnt seem right.

I have HFM.net running for my VM and i have a 33:339 TPF across all frames and its saying that Bonus will be 47056 or 20137PPD

/color me confused
 
depends on what he paid, Ive seen those chips go pretty low before. And he's ready for a serious upgrade come the right time
