Ok, so I was talking with bbq a few days ago for a power supply. The system I have so far is an E2140, Abit IL9, 2x512 DDR2, ATi x700, DVD-RW, Highpoint 2320, and 9 hard drives. My plan so far is to add an addition 11 drives. I do plan on adding two AOC-SAT2-MV8 there as well. bbq was saying I need at least 50A for this system. Now the question becomes, what is the wattage requirement I'll need for this? My numbers came to about 700W max, but my AM2 3600 x2, BIOSTAR TForce TF570SLI, 2x1GB DD2, ATi x600, 2 controller cards, and 11 drives, my system only uses about 220W. So I honestly don't think my planned system build doesn't seem like I need that much power.

You would need to clarify, first you said an additonal 11 drives which would be 20, they you said 11 drives as in total.

It's not watts you need to worry about it's total system Amps. Up in the stickies is a psu calculator which will help you a bit.

Keep in mind if or rather when you move forward to a newer system be it Intel or AMD you will be facing a CPU that draws 8 Amps and no doubt that figure will rise as time goes on.

If you decide on an upgraded video card with external power connector there goes another 18 to 24 amps. Double that for an sli setup.

With that many drives I'd guess you have some sort of raid setup in mind so you will need a very stable psu as well, not to mention a really good ups.

Again, tons of good info up in the stickies, have a look.

Luck:)

I said it while we were talking, but for those who weren't in the conversation (ie: Everyone else): If you have staggered spinup, you should be fine with an HX 620.

The 11 total drives is for the AM2 system I am running now. The other system (E2140) is the one I want add more drives to. While I know amps is more important, I just want to make sure I had enough wattage to keep everything running.

I know the newer Supermicro controllers support staggered spinup, but for some reason my Highpoint 2320 stopped doing that. I'll have to talk to mage about that.
