Planetside 2

So I've been playing quite a bit of PS2 since it came out, but I really haven't poked around the upgrades to much. I've been pretty stern about the fact that, at this time, I'm not putting money into this game. So I've just been using the points I earn to buy stuff, i've put most of it into the medic class and stock weapon.

Well, for xmas a friend of mine loaded me up with 6,000SC. So i've got some shopping to do now, but I've really got no idea what to do with it because I've never even looked into the more expensive stuff. I don't care about camo and shit, I don't need to run around looking like a giraffe. What are some useful enchancements to look in to? I'm no pilot, I pretty much only use land vehicles. I'm almost always a medic, sometimes also a light or heavy infantry. Pretty much never infilitrator, max, or engineer. Should I look into buying new weapons? Tank upgrades?

Medics have access to some of the best guns in the game, I know for Vanu the H-V45 is a beast for short-medium range.

Upgrade the main cannon for the Lightning, i chose the anti-infantry cannon and am pleased with it.

2nd burster arm for the Max is not bad if you want to chase away aircraft. Just know that you won't get a lot of kills.

Could also think about getting dual anti infantry on the max for some in base fighting.

7 day XP boost is nice if you plan on taking advantage of the double xp.

If you have a partner a 2nd gun on the main battle tank is a good idea. Anti infantry main cannon will let you farm enemy soldiers pretty easily.

The key combo for showing frames per second is ALT-F
It will also tell you if the current bottleneck is your CPU or GPU.

I'm running an i7 930 @2.8GHz and a Geforce GTX 460. The bottleneck was almost always my CPU.

I overclocked my CPU to 3.2GHz and I average 15 FPS more than before. If I'm around a ton of people my bottleneck will still be the CPU but it is also the GPU a fair amount of the time. 66% of the time it is CPU bottlenecking and 33% of the time GPU bottlenecks.

The map has way too much empty space between bases. Is a long trek just making your way to the next base, and then you get there and battle is over already

You are doing it wrong. Get a vehicle. Get in an outfit and/or squad. Use quick deploy and the spawn beacons that squad leaders can place. Use the voice chat to coordinate attacks and defenses. I have seen some of the most insane tactics used, including a couple hundred man raid on the crown that was a coordinated effort of several kamikaze galaxy's ramming the landing pads to clear the AA and other troops while anti-personnel equipped max's, engineers, and medics were air-dropped in only a few seconds later. A small handful of other classes came along also, including a recon that hacked the vehicle spawn terminals allowing a Sunderer to spawn inside the base to establish a spawning foothold.

Planetside is the epitome of anti-lone wolf gameplay. Even the Recon Snipers have their use in the teamplay with their hacking and invisibility. They can orbital drop in on a base before the main force arrives and hack all the defenses, then sit back and support from afar with a sniper rifle or get close with a semi auto rifle and a low power scope. Most of the Recon's I've seen rack up massive K/D ratios, and in doing so really help the team.

So so addicted.

Today I finally decided to give the Reaver a shot. I ended dumping about 1200 certs into it, so I obviously like it. I'm also in the process of buffing my lightning, so I'll soon have a well rounded infantry, tank, and air. Once I have all three, I'll look into joining an organized outfit.

Have they lowered the cost of items without station bucks or whatever?

When it doesn't take 20 hours of game play to unlock a single weapon and another 12 hours to unlock camo for it , I'll play it :)

No. What you have to do is buy SC on triple cash day. I dropped $60 on 4 Walmart cards and cashed them in on Friday for 24,000 SC (4x SC) - more SC than I know what to do with. I shouldn't have to worry abut unlocking a weapon for a very long time. Upgrading them with certs though... that will take some time. But it's all fun anyway.

Just got 20 Certs in 2 minutes.

We were defending the tech plant and there were a swarm of enemies just around the corner of the entrance to the plant protected by the tank shield.

I first spawned Vanguard with anti infantry shells , drew out of the gate like kamikadze and unloaded like 4 times into the swarm till I was dead.

Then I repeated the same immediately with Lighting.

2 minutes + load of kills and group kill bonuses and 20 certs up :)

Wasted 2 tanks but that was a lot of fun and kills

Love doing that. Either with rocket pods or prowler. Roll around the corner and just unload at 20 + people by the sundy.

I love Tech plant assaults and defenses. My favorite thing to do is run up to the infantry doors at the back entrance and chuck a grenade exactly at the doorframe. The grenades will bounce to the other side and run along the wall killing huge groups hovering around the door. Tactic works whether you are outside or inside.

Man, tech plants just aren't the same anymore though. Moving the generators outside the main facility was just a bad idea. They should have added more entrances instead.

Argh,

Wasted 3 last days with this game. So addictive. Deleted it from the HD till the next weekend otherwise no Christmas for me :)

Invested 45 euros and upgraded my sniper to 20% with earned cert points. Free to play game , haha :) Cannot stop spending money on it. I see this game will last years for me and will replace all multilayer games I was playing before it.

I have 12k SC burning a hole in my pocket and can't play for another 3 days... Wait, I'm on vacation in Hawaii, why am I thinking about PS2?

Has there been any word on NC weapon buff? I've about had it with how shitty their weapons are. Mad as hell at myself too for investing so much in my NC Character because I'm about to say fuck it and switch sides.

And what is wrong with them? I play NC and weapons are fine for me. Granted I didn't try other factions but I saw some video comparisons.

At 5am Eastern on a weekday? Not surprising. It was pretty damn crowded during primetime.

Servers are labeled by region. Don't imply the game as a whole is empty during the day.

What I don't like... is that 90% of that population is always around Crown.

I'm playing on the Miller (EU) server as NC. Although we are the clear underdog, I'm still having a blast playing with a very organized outfit.

Because.

And we never take it. :(

Usually it ends up with 10-15 mag riders sitting on the south hill shooting at the tower.

Very rarely, an organized outfit will zerg the hill and depending on time of day, sometimes take it.

During primetime, it's 90% TR held.

btw, anyone on Soltech in a casualish outfit that I can join?

Hit level 45 today, the imbalanced in this game are starting to wear thin, NC defences in CQB have become about 50% dual splatter MAXs which are basically impossible to kill even if you bring twice the numbers to the fight.

I hate to sound like a troll but I had high hopes for this game, but it is absolutely garbage in every way. Think I'm done with even trying soe games in the future.

How diablo got so much hate and this is actually seen as decent is beyond me, and that's coming from someone who doesn't like diablo. At least diablo was a complete game.

If your VS you can bring dual Comet Maxes (anti vehicle), that should make short work of them.

Dual hacksaw NC Max here... that's a good critique, I have an engineer leave an ammo pack and keep draining one side to give him XP - he stays around and I stand on top of a tech plant generator... good times are had by all, well except for the vanu.

Just feels like their weapons are subpar compared to other factions. Not just the infantry guns but all their weapons. I created a VS character for the heck of it, and as much as I don't like VS, I actually had a lot more fun than expected.

Bad part is I am heavily invested in my NC character right now due to bonus station cash days.

Hyperbole much?

Anyway, finished ops with the outfit a few hours ago and it was an absolute blast taking on whole NC/VS coalitions on Matherson. It's always a weird feeling when the rest of your outfit helps make you feel like a gaming God; one minute the certs are zero and the next they're plus five hundred.

This. I play and like the game.

Yeah, I like it enough to fire it up here and there, although it's been a bit since my friends have been on so I haven't played it in almost a week, what with the holidays going on.

you went from 0 certs to 500 ... that isn't your outfit making you feel like a god it is just the gun on the liberator.

I bought up the 500-cert medical applicator last night. That thing is pretty sick, allies go from dead to full health in a split second. Between that and the nova shotgun + slugs + 4x scope my medic is pretty nasty.

Just picked this game back up a week ago and have been giving it a solid run. Haven't played since the beta in September.

I must say Sony certainly fixed/polished more than I thought they would. Textures are much higher res, minimum framerate during large battles is much better and animations/clipping issues I experienced are gone.

Teamwork seems to be fairly solid too (at least on NC waterson east). Setup a sunderer behind cover close to an enemy outpost and setup a base of op.

The game could use a pinch of physics (not a massive amount) but I'm being picky :D

i wonder what the game will be like once the physX stuff is finalized from a physics perspective.
