Planar SA2311W

Just got this monitor today. One thing I noticed is that color at the top of the display look darker than the bottom. From left to right its pretty even. Guess thats the nature of TN displays.

The responsiveness in world of warcraft is like a CRT. Targeting circles, moving windows, etc keep up with the mouse cursor a lot more. Panning feels more responsive as well.

Color is not as good as the samsung sa850 24". The colors are more like my old CRT colors though.

I'm going to have to cross exchange with planar as it has that horizontal line going up every so often that was talked about.

I'm glad to hear that you find the monitor responsive, Galvin.

I'm waiting for my monitor right now, I've asked for one with an updated firmware version and I've been told this is going to take one or two weeks, I'll report back when I have it.

Don't think I'll keep this monitor. The color shift from top to bottom is just too much for me. And that's looking at the monitor from the center. I don't notice this from left to right though.

120hz is really nice but not worth it.

I am considering purchasing this monitor or a similar 120hz monitor and I appreciate all of your posts. I would primarily be using it for 2D gaming and movie watching. For those who own the monitor or another 120hz, I have a few more questions.

1.) Does 120hz add a noticeably smoother gaming experience over 60hz? I'm not asking if you think it is worth the money, just if there is a noticeably positive difference.

2.) I've read elsewhere that 120hz monitors have a "Gaming" mode that is supposed to be used for games and runs the monitor at 60hz. I'm curious about this because it seems to me there would be no point in getting a 120hz monitor for gaming if it only games at 60hz. Can games still be played at 120hz without this gaming mode?

3.) Does any one have other 120hz monitor recommendations?

Galvin, you said:

I'm curious as to exactly what you mean by that. Is it not worth it because of price, the color shift, or just not worth it period?

Well for some people they don't care if there is vertical color shift. So if it doesn't bother you then it'll be fine. To me the 120hz with color shift is not worth it to me. IMO color should be fairly even or enough where you'd have to look hard to see it.

The monitor I got has the bug where a wavy line will scroll up every so often when used in 120hz mode for 2D. They have a fix for this though. When you have the overdrive on, its extremely smooth and next to no motion blur unless something is moving really fast.

Me neither. I've been experiencing the horizontal tearing, as well, and the replacement arrives tomorrow, which should fix that issue.

Otherwise this monitor is fantastic.

I know what you are talking about and it bugged the shit out of me with my I-inc. I don't notice any color shift on this display.

Just got Mine today. Not having any of the problems listed here. Only use it for 2d 120hz gaming but it works great. Played some RO2 today on it once i got it hooked up. Realy nice upgrade from my 60hz lcd.

Yeah, got mine a couple of days ago and it doesn't have the horizontal tearing issues in 2D 120hz or noticeable color shift. Really happy with this display.

Well, I ended up sending in my monitor for an RMA. They sent me a refurb.

It only has five hours on it and is in pretty good shape but not in as good of shape as the monitor that I have now. The bezel is a bit scuffed but the screen seems fine and I didn't see any stuck pixels. It also doesn't seem to have that screen tear.

What would you guys do? Just keep this one or push for a new display?

I was thinking seriously about getting 3 of these displays but concerned about this tearing thing people have been getting...

The issue seems to be resolved. It looks like most of the people here with that issue bought it at around the same time. It could have been a bad batch.

If I were you I would consider something with HDMI 1.4 support just for more options with stereoscopic 3d.

Hrm, so new ones now might be Ok..

I'm actually only interested in it for the 120 Hz capability, but maybe the 3D stuff could be interesting later.

Don't rule out gaming in 3d until you try it. It adds a lot more to the experience than eyefinity imo. Unless you pretty much just play multiplayer fps titles.

Metro 2033, Duke Nukem Forever (3D makes this one slightly more enjoyable), NFS Shift and Burnout Paradise, Fallout New Vegas. Bad Company 2 crashes to desktop for me, and in the process screws up the refresh on the glasses requiring a restart.

Gonna load up Starcraft 2 and see how it feels. I did it with the Vision Discover and homemade glasses, but the Cyan was not quite the right shade so there was a lot of ghosting. I doubt I'll experience the same with the active glasses.

Make sure that you try GTA4. Thats the one game that I was probably the most impressed with.

Getting 3 of these for some NVSurround action. Will have 2 of them by Thursday and the third is an XMas gift from my friend. Ill post later this month with my results.

If anyone is interested in my old monitors, then PM me I'll let them go for a good price.

Does this monitor have a swivel base to put the monitor in portrait mode?

Has anyone used a ps3 with this monitor? seriously looking to pull the trigger on this soon, mainly for pc gaming. But I do intend on getting a ps3 relatively soon and it would be nice if I could just have it next to my comp and just use this monitor also.

Edit: And does anybody think there will possibly be a way to get this cheaper than 279 at all this month?

Have not been back to White Run. Ill run back and get back to you with the framerate.

I picked up this monitor about a month ago and have been very satisfied with it so far. But just yesterday my friend was showing me his artwork and I made a comment on how something seemed blue, and he replied that it was green and suggested I get my monitor calibrated. I'd rather not shell out cash for a colorimeter; does anybody have a ICC profile for their SA2311W?
