They are all selling out faster than they can be manufactured. It does take time to ramp up production on these things, and as expected, they will be in short supply to start with.

The 6800 GTs are relatively common, and the Ultras, although expensive, are definately out there too, even though they are a little harder to find that the GTs.

As to your question, the X800 XT PE will always be in extremely short supply, because that's just a reviewer-only vaporware card. The PE series are very rare golden sample chips that ATI found they could clock extremely high, and they did this to the few they could find, just to send them out to reviewers so that the public would know that they had a card that *could* keep up with the 6800 Ultras. Now that everyone thinks they have these fast cards, they are in trouble because the actual chips that can clock that fast are very few and far between.

The X800 XT is out there though, and about as rare as the 6800 Ultras, so they come at a pretty high price premium.

so...in that case, should i go with a 6800 GT and OC it to ultra speeds? and if so..which brand should i get? was looking at eVGA. ive heard some good things about them even if it is the reference board.

I would say that would be a much better decision that waiting around for a X800 XT PE, let alone one at a non-ridiculous price. eVGA does indeed have a pretty good rep, as does BFG and MSI. I have heard bad things about PNY cards, but that might not be typical. There's a BFG 6800 GT series that comes overclocked out of the box that seems pretty prevalent at Best Buy, etc.
