I got to see just how long the battery would hold out on the Pixel 2 XL this weekend. This was under what I would call my "normal" usage profile. It is included a lot of HardForum surfing, weather radar checking, navigation, phone calls, tons of texting, and at least four hours of streaming to a ChromeCast. I did have one stint in the car (with the top down in great weather on Saturday) with the phone plugged into a car charger for about 45 minutes running Waze with the brightness turned all the way up, and I could still see the screen just fine, which surprised me a bit.

I went a bit over two full days before I hit the 10% mark on the battery which showed close to a full 8 hours of screen usage. I think the phone charged about 8%+ while in the car. This was also with the Now Playing feature on, which works very well, and I would suggest it did not have any big detriment on the phone's charge as some were surmising.

that is almost 2x higher than pixel xl ... makes me think they purposely gimped our pixel xl with oreo.

before oreo i got 6-8 hours of screen time. afterwards 3-4.

My Pixel XL is over a year old now, and the battery is still kicking and screaming like it's new. I get a good 5-6 screen hours per full charge. I just wonder how much longer this battery is gonna hold up. I hate the fact that it's not removable.

That's substantially better than my New iPhone. After 16 hours i'm in the red.

Seeing any screen burn-in?
Not that I can tell looking, but I have not loaded up the specific screen I need to in order to see if it is actually there and I just can't see it. Which therefore means, no. No matter what some idiots put out looking in every single crack they can in order to find a "problem" so they can get hits to their YT channel.

I've found my P2XL to have excellent battery life as well. Superior to my P1XL. It gets a pretty hard workout in the evenings if I'm in Destiny 2 using it to chat on XBL, the clan slack channel and move gear around with Ishtar Commander.

I have not seen any issues the gadget press seems to be shitting themselves over. Screen is fine. OLED can have image retention but I've not seen it in the short few days I've had the phone. The perf is outstanding.

I think most phones these days have decent battery when they first come out minus occasional software bug. It's after a year has gone by that we start to see issues.

20% screen brightness seems pretty low for normal usage compared to phones I've used in the past; is that easy to see on the Pixel 2?

I keep mine at 40% which is more than enough in most scenario except for direct sunlight. I average about 7-8 hours SOT as well on a single full charge. I also haven't been able to come close to draining this phone's battery in one day with normal use. End almost everyday (16+ hours) with between 30-40% battery left with 5-6 hours SOT.
Seeing any screen burn-in?
Checked my phone as well and I don't have any burn-in either after 5 days of pretty extensive use.

This is very impressive, hopefully other manufactures follow suite.
Oh hell no, headphone jack is a must. No music off my phone into my car=burn in hell, Having to connect my phone to my PC to listen to music at work=ditto

Yes, I was about to complain about the same thing. When my pixel was new I'd get multiple days out of it. 4 was my max. Now I do a big charge before bed and a big charge mid day. Absolutely fucking bullshit. Even if I wanted a pixel 2 I'd skip it because of this.

On the pixel it's pretty easy to see until you get to the lowest setting which causes the ass to drop out and it's difficult to read even at night.

I set it up this run at 50% work adaptive brightness.

This is where I ended up with 50% and adaptive brightness. It was too bright in inside light, and too dark in the dark. I went back to my 20% setting with no adaptive. Got MUCH better battery usage with that setup.

Kyle if you ever get a chance, please run it at 100% screen brightness and use it as you normally would throughout the day. I'd love to see how it lasts. (iphone guy here that uses 100% brightness all the time)

As much as i love all new technology regardless of brand/make , its hard for me to peel away from Apple. I like photography and videography and i absolutely hate how you can not send and receive high definition video on these new $800-$1000 android phones via text message like you easily can on iphones.

I wouldnt mind AT ALL having my work phone be the pixel XL 2 but i cant get over that ^

There are options for msging that use data to send photos and videos on Android, like iPhones do, it only works on iPhones to iPhones (iMessage) however as it does not use the carrier SMS/MMS service. Being that iMessage is not on anything outside of Apple, anything coming from another phone type will be through SMS/MMS and file size limits are implemented by the carrier. Google Pixel phones however get photo/video hosting and backup, when you send someone a large video file it sends a link where it's hosted, not only does this allow it to work for all devices and email, but it also does not consume mobile data as Google is hosting the file, sending is also instant as nothing has to be uploaded from the phone so long as you have sync on.
