Here is my setup:
P4 3.06
1gig ddr
Biostar p4m80-m7
430w antec psu
2x seagate 300gig ide drives
1x seagate 200gig ide drive
1x maxtor 300 gig sata
1x seagate samsung 160gig sata
1x maxtor external 750gig
3com nic
all on board stuff not needed is disabled(serial/parallel/sound/nic)
Windows XP Pro sp2, latest drivers/updates

The problem I am having is when I try to copy files from one drive to another. I have a few folders with files in them. When I try to copy the files, I get a device i/o error.

It does it if I copy files from the sata to ide, ide to sata, sata to sata, sata to usb, usb to ide, no matter what, I get "device i/o error".

I know all the drives are good, I had loaded up files from these drives to the external in my other p4 box with no issue.

I know in the past, with this combo, I did not install the via drivers, I did this time around, I'd like to get some help pinpointing this as a driver related item or physical hardware.

At this point I am ready to just chuck it out the window and score up 4 Compaq SFF boxes and just dump a pair of drives in each lol....

update the controller drivers.

I had the latest installed.

I am running spin rite on it to cross the drives off the list, if it passes with flying colors, then its time to buy a new mobo.
