Literally I can watch my ping going from down to WAYYYY UP, very slow. One second I will be at 50 ms and then it slides to 1000 range. Clearly unacceptable. I am using Comcast cable in Jacksonville and am trying to help pinpoint the problems. Like I said, I would classify the symptom as a rollercoaster effect. Fast and slow, and so on. I reset my modem, reboot, the basics, but other than that I have no clue what is causing it.

My roommate has hooked into the 2nd network card on my computer and perhaps that is the cause but I simply do not know enough to be sure of that and I am not sure if that would cause this symptoms I am experiencing. (If it is, that is a simple fix, hehe, *click*)

Running following

XP on Abit KV8 Pro
AMD 64 3000 +
Radeon 9800 Pro
Onboard LAN card (o the KV8)
Linksys NiC
1 Gig Kingston DDR 400

Thanks for the help.

well... how about you do the obvious and unplug his computer and see if that helps. if it does... maybe you should get a router to hook up both computers to the network.

Whenever I have that problem, it's usually because I forgot that I'm running a P2P program in the background.
