I have a computer illeterate freind (Does not own a computer) who wants to print his digital pictures. Can you reccommend a nice printer that will connect directly to a camera that is simple to use?

Honestly, if you want to print digital pictures (4x6 size anyways) and a bunch of them, sending them to like ritz camera is way better and cheaper. Printers use ink that will only last about 30 years or so, where as the chemical process of photos can last 100 years also, and it doesnt smudge :)

I have a hp photosmart 7660. Makes great 6x4 prints from 1600x1200 or higher pictures. Apparently its ink hungry though...

and the built in flash card reader is pretty neat too

He has it in his head he wants to print his own. I am perfectly happy having mine on a cd and having the occational one I want to display profesionally printed but its not what he wants. Just need something very easy to use.

Well I like my Cannon i960. I havent tried to do direct from the camera printing as, I dont like to proof off the LCD screen. This printer is my only Cannon product.

Hate to burst your bubble but what do you think they use?

I'd highly recommend the Epson R800, but I don't think it has a direct camera connection...

Epson UltraChrome inks > *

Can this printer plug directly into the camera or does a flash card have to be used? His current camera only uses on board memory.

Use for what, printing? They use chemicals, not ink. Printers are ok for that 8x10 you want to get done to show friends, or a few 4x6's. The ink doesnt last as long, the quality isnt as good, and its usuauly more expensive. And since they dont use ink like printers, the pictures wont smudge as easily (especially dark ones).

You can print from the comptuer. I dont think you could printer from the camera directly,
it has a USB port on the front but apparently its for connecting it to laptops and stuff (its that larger square port, like the one at the back to hook it up to the computer instead of the regular USB port that you have on your computer).
