so I managed to fuck up the cabling on my current PSU and need to buy a new one for a HTPC build

AMD FX-8230E
GTX750 2GB

otherwise nothing out of the ordinary for draw, under 300W peak in total for the build.

Newegg has two PSUs on special currently that're tempting.

550W Rosewill Hive - Semi-Modular - 30$ Shipped AR

Edit: Found a third:

650W Corsair CX-M - Semi Modular - 40$ Shipped AR

Now obviously getting the 750 leaves more overhead, but this system is not going to be upgraded anytime soon.

Is there a reason I don't know of to get the 750 over the 550?

The EVGA 750 B1 is a FSP unit, which has historically made decent to slightly above average units. There are no reviews for that particular unit.

The Rosewill Hive is a Sirfa unit that got a good review from Hardware Secrets. Sirfa can make crap to decent PSUs, this one seems to be an above average one.

I would pick the Rosewill.
