Is my old GTX280 worth holding onto as a possible physx card or should I just sell and put the loot towards sli? I replaced it with a GTX570.

do you really thinks it worth using a large power hungry card to handle physx for the one game a year worth playing that contains it? sell your gtx280 and dont even worry about using an additional card for physx.

Using a GPU for Physx is actually a bad idea. GPUs are more of a cap than CPUs almost always. It doesn't help that Nvidia purposely refuses to optimize Physx being handled by the CPU, though. Quite a dirty situation, honestly.

That being said, since you have a spare card, you may want to use it for that; but it's hardly worth it, honestly.

I think all of you might be wrong.

Using my GTX580 @ 975mhz when playing Batman Arkham City my frame rate goes from ~45fps with Ultra Physx to 80-90+ with Physx disabled.

Having said that a single GTX570 I don't think would be able to quite cope with higher-end visuals + Physx.

However, a GTX280 while fast as shit for Physx is definitely overkill...look at something like a GTS450 or 540 which both cards have way less energy consumption and heat output.

If you really want physx sell the 280 and use that money to buy a more power efficient card to run physx.

That 280s not a bad card depending on what u use it for but not sure what u will get out of it.

It's worthless to sell the card, just underclock it significantly. Much lower power consumption.
if anything thats all the more reason just to sell it and buy a lower power single slot card to get the job done if having a physx card is a must.

GTS 450 or 540 is even overkill.. hell a 9800GT will do just as good as a physX card.

depends on where you live and how stupid the people are in your area that watch CL.. i've seen 280's and 285's going for as much as 175 bucks on my local CL and they actually sell at that price which is kind of sad. so to say its worthless is a bit off.

a 9800gt would be okay but would certainly not get the full use out of physx when paired with a gtx570. a gts450 is not really overkill as even a gtx570/gtx460 combo is recommended for running high physx in Batman AC.

I'm currently 50% through Alice: Madness returns and some of the fight scenes are absolutely MISERABLE on my 6970 crossfire. I've seen it drop to as low as 10fps. While this is the only game i've ever experienced do this, all I can say is I long for a physx card during these battles.

are you actually running hardware physx while using 6970 crossfire? if you are then stop being retarded and disable physx as all its doing is running on your cpu which is abysmal for physx.
