Hiya :)

I'm looking to build a new computer, as mine's about 4 years old.. I'm going to go with a Sandy Bridge build next month.

I currently have an Nvidia GTX 460 graphics card.

I like the extra details you get from Physx, but would like to have Eyefinity, too. I've read that you can have both types of cards & make the Eyefinity one the main & the Physx one the backup, but I've never done that before & am just curious how you'd do this? Also, can you do Crossfire or SLi if you do that? I was thinking of getting 2 6970's & just using my 460 as the Physx card, but am willing to upgrade it.

It's been a while since I built my last computer (4 years ago lol), so forgive me if my questions are silly! :)

No, I was just asking if it was possible & if so, how? :) I'd like both features, but if it's not possible, then that's fine. I'd rather have the Eyefinity.
 
One thing to note. If you play fps, 60hz lcds REALLY show the tearing and lag when you are making fast turns. I sold my 3 20" 60hz lcds and went to my old crt at 85 hz due to this. Aka, consider a 120hz lcd setup if at all possible. It really screwed me up. I couldn't afford 3 x 120 hz.
 
i think it's possible, you need to download a patch for that to work. May work also with CF (if you place the NV as physx card).
 
Why do Amd want physx if it was proven that X87 physics reduces the cpu performance. SSE A CPU can perform 16 instructions where if it would run X87 physics it would only be able to run 2 instructions. Which I got to ask how to get rid of physics?

project overkill. Maybe you should just try triple buffering
 
Hmm, also, there's no tearing with vsync on. Not everyone's a uber l337 competetive gamer and needs more than 60 FPS you know.
 
Yeah, you can. It's called hybrid physx. just google hybrid physx and you will come up with the link that Spilly provided. For some reason Hard is blocking it. You will probably have to use older Nvidia drivers to get it to work. Also, you must be using Windows 7. It will not work with vista.

Physx slows your cpu down. Cpus are awfull with X87 coding. I will not enable physx on my machine no way
 
It's blocking my link for some reason. Just google "hybrid physx 1.04" without "", and its the first result.

Thanks for the link. My GTX 285 is coming back to the case just to try this. I have a couple of games using physx (Batman AA y Mirror's edge) and just got Mafia II from steam midweek sale.
