Sony and PlayStation Studios have announced a partnership with Kojima Productions on a project codenamed 'Physint'...this is essentially a successor to Metal Gear Solid — which is of course owned by Konami, and has nothing to do with Kojima anymore..."It will be a brand new, original IP," says Kojima. "A next-generation action espionage game"

Kojima stated that it'll be a "movie" as well as a game, and will "transcend the barriers" between the two mediums...Sony's own Columbia Pictures is involved, so it's clearly investing a lot into whatever Physint ends up being...

People will have a hard time producing the name Physint.

Movie as well as a game? Not sure I like the sound of that.

My assumption, it will more or less be MGS. Long cut scene sections. Or perhaps the IP will be designed around a game with an accompanying movie.

This is a PS game and should be a solid developed for PS, released on PS first, and then port to PC later and half ass it.

It's been ten years since Phantom Pain. That game does things we still have never seen again since so I sure hope this brings the goods.

Wondering if this means no Playstation port. Microsoft has mentioned more exclusives but I assume that might only be for their in house studios. Would be a big sales loss to not put it on Playstation. Also funny how Sony is okay with cancelling this but okay with their various shitty online games that seem to be flopping left and right. Seems like Sony/Playstation has drifted too far and likely wanted to control the development too much while also being skeptical of the costs.

Regardless of whether Kojima makes GOOD games (to me he does) but you can't deny he makes culturally relevant games. and Xbox needs to be culturally relevant.

Aside from Metal Gear has he? That FedEx simulator really wasn't. It's not quotable and I hardly know anyone who had the patience for it.

To me, Kojima is the gaming equivalent of those pretentious filmmakers of the 1970's who like the smell of their own farts and bitch that Marvel movies are more successful than anything they've ever done.

Not really - Zone of the Enders was OK - but the fact it never continued (past 2) speaks to its 'success'

Death Stranding 1 was riding off Metal Gear's coattails with its sales - evident IMO when you compare the sales of the second game to the first

Edit: I have hopes for this though, given it's more Metal Gear/3rd person espionage-action-shooter oriented - with that weird Kojima/Japanese style (that's in all his games)

I wonder why Sony bailed on the game?
Most likely money. This is just another chain in a long line of attempts to cut back costs in 2026:
  • Not renewing digital license with StudioCanal which resulted in removal of 551 movies from user's libraries
  • Large swaths of Bungie employees laid off after Marathon launch (Marathon itself probably a huge financial failure)
  • Shutdown Bluepoint Games who worked on Shadow of the Colossus remake, Demon’s Souls remake and God of War Ragnarök.
Then you got the announcement to discontinue physical media by 2028 which is such a corpo move. I guess things started going south for them after Concord flopped hard. Seems like they can't take anymore risks, even a Kojima risk.

Death Stranding 2 was pretty expensive to make.

Going to point out this decision was made months ago. Kojima broke the news only recently, so he's been sitting on it a while.

One imagine sony in general and death stranding 2 in particular did not do well for that type of project...

Sony reportedly dropped Hideo Kojima's next game because it kept missing deadlines, was over budget, and would eventually come to other platforms

Sounds like Sony may try and start pushing for Sony published games to not come on PC. Which would be a problem as they published many good games over the years. But I think many like the developers of Stellar Blade are finding alternatives, likely because they want to do PC releases as well. Would be ironic if many of these games that would have been published by Sony and would have been console exclusive start finding alternative publishers and end up as day 1 Xbox releases.

Not surprising coming from Kojima lol. PS5 has been such a dud of a generation for Sony game wise. Then they are capping it off with bad decision after bad decisions.
Sony likely had to ditch him for not turning it into a live service game with an uggo female lead character in her 40s. 😜

I hope this turns into a mass exodus for studios breaking ties with Sony. It's like they think they're infalliable at this point just because they won the console war by default, and yet they're hemoraging billions of dollars into several live service failures while closing legitimately good studios like Bluepoint. Arrowhead studios, who brought them their most successful live service game (Helldivers 2) this generation, has already announced they're self-publishing their next game as well.

Well except for Troon-D (OD) 🤢🤮

And knowing Kojima they will probably want them to look 100% like the actor as he has some abnormal obsession with actors. I do like the attention to detail they put into games like DS and DS2, but it can have some down sides if the actors in question are odd looking.

The potentially funny part is the weird troon plays the weird monster - what did Kojima mean by this? 🤔
