Stick both into your system, install the latest WHQL nVidia drivers, then go to the control panel and choose which card to run PhysX on.

ok, not so much, but heres the deal
You need to make that card think you have a monitor plugged in there. What I did was take one of those DVI to VGA converter dongles, do the three resistor trick, and tape the hell out of it and WALA! it works, and I must say, after doing the Cryostasis demo, I think Physx might finally get its break out app.

Good luck, and that 8800GT should make a nice Physx card, Im using a 8800GTX for rendering and a 9600GSO (chopped down 8800GTS) as Physx, and I love it, and yours has one more bank of shader cores on it. I know not much uses it, but Im really hoping this takes off, it could do so much
why do you need to hack in some resistor to turn physx on?
and this is the only way to get physx to work on vista?.. that is some pretty shoddy drivers, then.. don't you think?
Of course, the kicker hereby is that you can't change this policy anywhere within Vista without the use of a hex editor.
This is one point where I must admit that Linux and similar are less frustrating than Windows OSs.
That might be possible, yeah. *damns her lack of in-depth knowledge of the Vista driver system*No, but I suppose that Windows can only detect the presence of a monitor through the video card driver... so I'm quite sure that nVidia can 'pretend' that there's a monitor connected when the GPU is in PhysX mode (I believe the TV Out works the same way, it can't be detected like a regular VGA/DVI connection, so it is just faked to 'always on').

So uhh, noob question. What's the advantage of putting a standalone physX capable nvidia card vs your regular SLI setup such as mine? Am I missing out on something here? I know those silly nvidia physX demos work fine...???
Does anyone know of any benches comparing physX setups?
It's about shared resources versus dedicated. Graphics rendering and physics both require a certain workload, if the GPU is powerful enough (285/295) it should be no issue even at higher resolutions with current PhysX-enabled games. With a lower-powered GPU, however, having a dedicated PhysX GPU helps to offload the physics workload, increasing the FPS.
Whether or not it'd benefit you to have a dedicated PhysX card depends fully on what your setup is and at what resolutions you game. If you have an up-to-date SLI setup (GF9+), I can not see a good reason to add another card for PhysX only at this point.
Look online and try to find the setup already benchmarked that your wanting to go with,as adding a card just for physx as been known to slow your fps down a good bit.
