Hello, this is my first post. I was a hardforum member about 5 years ago though.

I am a part time photographer, and I want to switch to an LCD to save space. I need something that will give me good results in photoshop, yet something I can still play Battlefield 2 on (I still haven't grown up).

Is the Dell 2007FPW good enough for Photoshop, yet will be able to play some FPS games?

Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

HP LP2065.
top quality color and view angles for pics.
good response (8ms S-IPS is better then 5ms TN)
4:3 ratio perfect for everything except games and movies.
since battlefield doesnt support widescreen, its perfect for that, too :)

can be had for about $380 AR.

I heard that widescreen is better for not only gaming, but also for photoshop. Is this true? I guess it makes sense.

I will look up the LP2065 right now. thanks for the input.

That is purely opinionated. The LP2065 will offer you more vertical real estate - use it to dock your tools on the top & bottom, leaving a full side to side view. just like using a widescreen.

something else to consider:
For a serious photographer, S-IPS is your only option. If you want a widescreen S-IPS, you will have to look at 20" models (dell's lottery, or Samsung [EXPENSIVE])
or the dell 30" ($1200)

the LP2065 will give you more real estate then a 20" widescreen, both physically and in the # of pixels.

Do they sell the LP2065 at Best Buy or any other retailer? I really think that Widescreen will benefit me the most. Everyone that I know with widescreen says they could never go back. I need to find out what my fellow photographers are using(wide or not).

So its hard to find a S-IPS for under $400?

most people went from a small 4:3 CRT to a big LCD widescreen, and they are evaluating based on that.

put the LP2065 next to a 20" widescreen LCD and things will be very different. the LP is noticably bigger.

think of it like this:
by going with a 20"wide screen over a 20" 4:3, rather then gaining the horizontal realestate, it's more like losing the vertial real estate you could have had.

some people really would like widescreen better, though. just reminding you not to buy into the hype.

assuming you don't like to gamble, your only real options for SIPS widescreen are the samsung 20WGX2 or the DELL 30" (both are very nice)

20WGX2:
~$550
1680x1050

LP2065:
~$380
1600x1200

DELL 30"
~$1200
2560x1600

if you can get that $1050 deal for the dell 30", I would go for that over the 20WGX2 ATM. damn good value for what you get.

edit: and if anyone knows of any good SIPS widescreens i'm missing, feel free to add. also i have not seen the LP2065 at any retailers (nor the other two wide's i mentioned for that matter.)

The Dell 2007WFP can be S-IPS and it sells for $400 - $350ish on sale. The problem is you may not get the S-IPS but the underwhelming S-PVA Dell also uses (a lot). If you like looking at photos with any sort of critical enjoyment you will not like the S-PVA. Its like being hungry and only having a can of tuna with no mayo - you'll get by ok but you'll really want something else. Take a stab at the Dell lottery and be prepared to be happy - or to spend more than a few weeks stuck in the Dell web (return shipping, phone calls, case numbers, 30 day wait for refund etc). For around $550 you could get a NEC 20WMGX2 and feel like you underpaid. It's great for photos and can still be good all-arounder.

Best choice for photographer would be NEC 2090UXi, but I doubt that you can find it under 400$. LP 2065 would be second best choice.
