You guys know of any really good photo recovery software thats free to use? I had to try and find a program last night to recover a bunch of photos off an SD card that had gotten deleted and i tried several that were free. I'm sure the paid ones are much better but i wasn't going to pay for something i would rarely use at this point. I did a search on google and found a few threads on photo recovery software on other forums and i tried some of the ones suggested but the only one i found that actually recovered the files is called Smart Data Recovery and it is freeware. I dont think it was able to recover three or four of the pics but it recovered the rest and none of them were corrupt. Any of you ever recovered photos off something before? What did you use?

If I need to recover something, it is off of a hard drive. Never recovered anything off a Secure Digital card before. But be aware that SD cards use the FAT file system, so add that into your searchs. Good luck :)

Most normal file recovery applications can be used for memory cards as well.

I've ran multiple recoveries on mem cards that customers accidentally formatted with no problems.

Personally, I would recommend using GetDataBack by Runtime Software.
http://www.runtime.org/products.htm I've had good luck with this while using it on memory cards and hard drives.

I know you mentioned you prefer not to go the paid-ware way, but you really do get what you pay for..
Although you may not need to go out and purchase one for your current situation, in general, having a good file recovery software is one of those things you should get in case you need it in the long run.

This is a popular free file recovery software that people here have recommended, but I have not tried it yet.

depending on the maker of the sd memory card some do have recovery software on their website for free.

As for a comercial one I have used rescue pro

I tried that one as well as Zero Assumption Recovery and i couldn't get ither one to recover the files. The SD card is a 512MB 80x Transcend model. I havn't looked to see if they have any recovery software on their site but likely they dont.

If you delete the items - on purpose good luck, if it is corrupted and you have a "secure" SD card, it should of come with recovery software.

dont use those high priced $200 pieces of crap software - i had an issue with work and went through all the brand name ones - the one that saved my butt was R-Tools - $60 i think.

It comes down to more or less is what you lost worth money out of your pocket?

""secure" SD card"

SD stands for Secure Digital. So secure Secure digital card doesn't make much sence.
