Phoronix has been reporting that AMD have been downsizing engineers responsible of maintenance of Linux kernel components like the AMD cpufreq/powernow components, AMD microcode, and other CPU-focused areas.

Phoronix, usually well informed on what happens in Germany, is wondering if the Dresden Operating System Research Center may close or not.

I have no idea if AMD has other OS R&D centers working on components that will be needed for future Linux kernels to work with future AMD CPU releases.

or they will just leave it to the linux community to do the work which is how it has been for years on the consumer side. most of the other stuff was intended for the server market.

The linux community has several smart cookies, I am sure things will be just fine.
