Phone Mod

I have my headphones on most of the time and I can never hear the phone. I want to mod my telephone, non cordless with the dial pad on the base. Its got a small red light that flashes red when it rings.

The phone sits at by my feet on the floor and cant not leave the floor because:

1. the line is too short

2. The line is ran under neath my carpet and too much of a hassle to run a new line

I was thinking of running a line out of the phone to some metal clips or something to shock me when it rings or splicing the line to the red LED another LED up to my monitor.

Anyone know anything about the shock treatment, if it could work?

How about adding a callerID compatiable modem so when someone calls a little callerID bubble pops up instead?

no my phone service is just regular telephone. but my isp is cable. would i put a dial up modem in my pc and run a line in and out?

to get this caller id to work, you have to have caller id on your phone service as well. being the poor college student that I am, I have the most basic service ever. This won't work huh?

get a rj45 coupler, run a line off the coupler to your desk.

Also, if your phone has a light or led that flashes when it rings (like mine does on the base (cordless phone)). You can get a multimeter, get the voltage, find an LED, and wire it to something on your desk. But the rj45 extension coupler is still the easiest (and the phone will be on your desk.

My dad used to use a telethon phone, which has a neon flasher instead of a bell, since he always played his music so loud. I know there are external flashers that you can just plug into the phone line and it will flash whenever the phone rings. They are designed for old people who can't hear very well. Though if they can't hear the phone ringing how the hell can they hear a person talking on the phone?

Something like this. Or you can build a circuit just like that for a few dollars in parts. There are schematics for it all over the internet.

Thanks for that link. how bright does that thing flash? I'd like to try and build my own, thanks for the tip
