Phillips cd-r locks up cd's

weird... just started today for no reason. i put in a cd-r to format and then it went from unlocked to locked so i cant write on it. tried 3 other disks with the same results. starts as unlocked - format- then locked. What is the problem and how do i fix it? i researched this a little and can't really find anything to fix it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanx.
