They are the same company, but with 2 brands. LG doesn´t seem to have a great reputation, while Philips seem to be well regarded. LG is also cheaper than similar Philips panels.

Is it possible that Philips uses more expensive and better components than LG..like higher grade panels...or are they the same?

Philips is offering a 20" medical grade LCD, while LG has no such offerings.

Philips and LG have some joint ventures but aren't the same company. Philips is a Norwegian electronics giant that has been around a long time making not only consumer electronics but also medical, military and various others kinds. LG is a Korean company dating back to the 1960's iirc and used to be known as Lucky Goldstar,,they made the first Korean telephones and tv sets. In the mid 90's they changed to LG Electronics then acquired American company Zenith and has since grown into one of the largest electronics companies in the world. I hold both companies in high regard for certain products.

edit- The reason I know all this is I used to work for a warehousing/logistics company that provided services for both companies. In my position it was in my best interest to learn about the companies that used our service. ;)

Thanks for your clarification!

However, I thought Philips was a company from Holland.
We're both wrong...it originated in the Netherlands.

But wouldn't LG and Phillips have the same LCD panels in their monitors? I've seen listings of LCD panels described as "LG-Phillips." For example, the Apple Cinema Displays use LG-Phillips panels, which are generally considered to be very high quality. I've never seen a LCD panel (as opposed to a whole monitor) listed as only LG or only Phillips.

Yes. LG-PHillips panel manufacturing is a joint venture, but they are not the same company. You see this a lot in this industry. Sony just did something similar with Samsung.
